Know the road before you drive it.
Live California Highway Patrol incidents statewide — and, for the drive over Echo Summit, Donner, Carson Pass, the Grapevine or Tehachapi, every chain-control checkpoint on your route. See Caltrans' live R-1/R-2 status in each direction and what drivers there are reporting right now: how long the queue is, whether chains are being checked, whether people are being turned around. Plan the drive, see the forecast for when you'll reach each pass, and let Drive mode announce the next checkpoint as you approach.
Trip mode for mountain drives:
- Search a destination and see every checkpoint and CHP incident along the way, in travel order — plus cameras and signs with CHPMap Pro
- Live Caltrans chain-control status per pass, per direction, year-round
- Driver reports on each checkpoint — wait, enforcement, last update — from drivers on the road
- Checkpoint hub: Caltrans status, driver reports and nearby incidents on one screen, plus cameras, weather and signs with CHPMap Pro
- Mountain briefing: pick a departure time and see the whole drive on one timeline — the climb, the forecast when you reach each stretch, snow and possible ice, chain controls and closures — with the source and age of every item
- Compare mountain corridors, like I-80 and US-50, side by side when there's a real choice
- Drive mode shows only the next thing that changes and announces checkpoints and incidents as you approach; follow a trip to get a push when a pass changes
- Ask Siri: "Are chains required in CHPMap" or "Chain controls on 80 in CHPMap"
The live CHP incident map, as always:
- Live California Highway Patrol incidents, statewide, with the full CAD log
- Tap any incident for type, location, time and unit updates
- Tap the bell on any incident to get notified when it's updated or cleared from CHP's list
- Save favorites and share incidents with a tap
- Mountain drive coming up? Make Trip your home screen in Settings ▸ Home screen
Checkpoints and the trip planner are free. CHPMap Pro adds:
- Traffic Cameras — live Caltrans highway camera feeds
- Weather Alerts — NWS zones, color-coded by severity
- EV Chargers — public charging stations
- Rest Areas — Caltrans roadside stops
- CMS Signs — Caltrans changeable message signs
- CHP Radio Areas — area boundaries + radio channel info
Great for mountain and long-distance drivers, daily commuters, fleet and field teams, and anyone who wants a clearer view of the road.
