New • Quilt Kits. Plan a quilt from pieces already cut: a charm pack, a charity kit, your scrap bin. Photograph each kind of piece, say how many came in the bag, and drop them on the board at true size, or let Auto-pack lay them out (Courthouse Steps and log cabin included). Swap, shuffle, give each colorway its own arrangement, and the fit report shows what's left and what would close the gaps. A free kit holds 3 fabrics; the full app holds every fabric in the bag. • Freeform Sampler. Drop blocks from your library anywhere on the board, at any size, leave empty spots to decide later, and add sashing. TideStitch works out how it sews together, and if a layout would need a partial seam, it says where to nudge a block. • On point, Design Your Own's whole quilt is your board: cut, stamp and merge right out into the corners, and the quilt's edge trims what crosses it. • Studio comes to iPhone. The block designer that was iPad and Mac only now runs on every iPhone. Draw your own blocks anywhere, and the tools fold away so your block gets the screen. Studio is its own one-time unlock (or part of Complete). • Bind your quilt. Pick a binding fabric in Borders & Binding and see it framing your quilt on the canvas, in your library and on the pattern. Choose a 2¼" or 2½" strip (or your own width), straight grain or bias, and the pattern adds the yardage to that fabric and checks it against your stash. Tap the binding on the canvas to repaint it. • Sashing on Design Your Own boards. Mark the blocks you drew with Define as Block, then add strips between them in Layout. Blocks can be different sizes, cornerstones go where the strips line up, and you'll see where every strip goes before it lands. • Half-rectangle triangles in Design Your Own. Merge a rectangle of cells, then tap it with the Line tool's Diagonal to cut it corner to corner. Any shape works, from a 1 × 2 to a big square, and the pattern cuts each direction on its own line so your triangles come out the right way round. • Layouts. Try your quilt with sashing and without, a wide border or a narrow one, straight or on point, and keep every version together as one quilt. Compare them side by side at true size, finished dimensions under each. (Part of the full app.) • T-shirt quilts. Photograph your shirts, type in each graphic's size, and arrange them in columns. Every shirt shows once, at its real size, and the pattern covers stabilizer and sewing with knits. • Copy a painted block and paste it onto other cells: tap Copy in the Blocks palette, tap the block, then tap or drag where it goes. • A quilt that's a single block set on point can have sashing now: the strips frame the block before its corner pieces go on, and the pattern walks you through it. • In Studio on iPad and Mac, swipe the handle to fold the tools away and give the block the whole screen. • Quilting on a photo now offers your design's full quilting. • Make any colorway the main one, and delete the main once there's another. • Type sizes and counts straight into the field instead of tapping steppers. Fixed • The Line and Blocks tools keep a Design Your Own board on point instead of turning it back square. • The Bargello wave editor works at larger text sizes, and its preset labels no longer break. • Deleting a design you'd imported from a file no longer clears the paint on its iCloud copy. • Painted geese in a pieced border now stay put when you resize the border, or anything inside it. • Fabric no longer jumps when you lift your finger after painting a piece. It shows at its true size while you paint. • The Line tool shows your merged pieces as one piece. • On a Design Your Own board, the pattern says how to sew pieces that are taller than one row. • Studio's Cut tool: press the middle of a line and drag to slide the whole line, and a tap on a line now tells you how. (Studio) • A block you copy on a Design Your Own board stays a block wherever you paste it. • Fabric pickers put your stash on its own row.
Quilting's scariest moment is committing to a design you can only half-see in your head. TideStitch is where you see it for real first: lay out your quilt block by block and see the whole thing, binding and all, before you cut a single piece. No graph paper, no colored pencils, and no math. Design the quilt you actually want and TideStitch works out the finished and cut sizes, so you walk away with an accurate cut list instead of guesswork.
