A steadier trail. Updates now install the next time you open the game instead of restarting it on the title screen, which closes the rare crash some wagons hit right after an update. The title screen shows your Daily Trail streak and this week's best score, and the Weekly Challenge shows where you stand against every other wagon this week. Reminders only ask once you have come back for a second ride, never on your first. Plus the Commodore 64 color scheme in Settings, for anyone who finds the Apple II palette a bit much.
It is 1848. You have one wagon, five hopeful souls, and 2,040 miles of prairie, mountains, and rivers that would very much like to tip you over. Go west. Try not to die. (Yes, like the spice. This trail is well-seasoned.) THE OREGANO TRAIL is a loving throwback to the computer-lab classics of the early 1980s — the games you played on a humming beige machine while your teacher thought you were learning. Six-color pixel art, a chunky terminal font, square-wave beeps synthesized the old way, and gentle scanlines. No remaster gloss. The real look, on your phone. YOUR CALLS, YOUR FUNERAL • Pick your profession — the banker rides easy, the farmer earns triple the glory • Outfit your wagon at the general store: oxen, food, clothing, ammunition, spare parts • Set the pace and the rations — push too hard and the trail pushes back • Twenty-two stops checked against 1848: take the Sublette Cutoff at South Pass, or choose your way at Three Island Crossing • Ford the river, caulk and float, or pay the ferryman — choose wrong and pay dearly THE TRAIL FIGHTS FAIR (BUT IT FIGHTS) • Disease, snakebites, blizzards, hail, thieves, and broken axles — every setback is real and every one can be survived with the right supplies • Warm clothing matters when the blizzard hits. Spare parts matter when the wheel goes. Skimp at the store and you'll feel it on the trail • Mountains and forests slow the wagon. Plan around the terrain or fall behind the season SHOOT STRAIGHT OR STARVE • Hunt bison, deer, and rabbits in the sparse pixel woods • Ammo is money and money is scarce — every shot counts THE TRAIL PASS (ONE-TIME, OPTIONAL) • Seasons: choose your start month and race the snow. Leave too early and the grass is thin; leave too late and December closes the passes • Trading: barter with travelers on the trail and haggle at the forts • The Hard Road: 1848 scoring by every survivor's health, steeper prices, and no early-trail mercy • The Daily Trail: one shared trail a day, the same for every player. Ride it and compare scores DIE HISTORICALLY • Succumb to dysentery like your ancestors intended • Every run ends on the trail or in the Willamette Valley — chase your best score in your Trail Records (kept on your phone) • Game Center, if you use it: thirteen achievements and the leaderboards. Optional, and the game never asks • Share your gravestone. It's what they would have wanted. • Your graves stay on the trail. Later wagons pass them, epitaphs and all HONEST RETRO • Plays 100% offline — in a tunnel, on a plane, or in a covered wagon • No ads, no accounts, no subscriptions. The full trail is free; the Trail Pass is a one-time extra for people who want it harder • Anonymous play statistics help tune the trail — switch them off any time in Settings • Auto-saves your journey; quit and pick up the trail later • Works with VoiceOver and Voice Control; Quick Hunt lets anyone eat without aiming No two runs end the same. Fresh dangers, fresh graves — reach the valley if you can.
