Patina is a field tool for anyone who picks up an old object and wants to know what it is. Photograph the whole piece and Patina reads the style period it comes closest to, together with the other periods it could be. Then turn the object over, photograph the mark on the base, and Patina matches it against an archive of 238 porcelain factory marks, silversmith punches and assay office hallmarks from 17 countries. Then keep what you found. Every piece goes into an inventory that lives on your phone. WHAT PATINA READS - Style period from a photograph of the object, for furniture and for ceramics - A closest reading plus the other possibilities, never one confident answer, and always an estimate rather than a precise date - Maker marks read from a photograph of the base, with the viewfinder magnified so a small mark fills the frame - A timeline that places your piece among the periods around it - When a photograph cannot be read, you can pick the closest silhouette by hand instead - Photographs can also come from your library THE MARK GUIDE - Browse the archive by the outline of the mark: shield, oval, square, cushion, anchor, crown, crossed swords, date letter, rosette - Or search by maker name - Every entry lists the sources it was checked against - Where a date range could not be confirmed, the years were removed rather than guessed CONDITION - Five questions: crack or break, missing part, surface wear, repair trace, later addition - Answer each as none, slight or marked and Patina suggests a grade from Poor to Mint, and tells you why - Your answers are saved with the piece, not only the grade - Restoration is flagged, with a reminder to disclose it when you sell YOUR INVENTORY - Name, type, material, height, width and depth, origin and notes, with an inventory number assigned for you - What you paid, who you bought it from, and your own valuation if you want to record one - Each record keeps its own currency, so a piece bought in pounds stays in pounds - The home screen totals what you entered, counts your pieces and periods, and shows your oldest - Export everything as CSV, or delete all of it in one step WHAT PATINA DOES NOT DO Patina does not appraise. It never produces a value for your object. Any figure you see is a figure you typed, and the screen says so where it appears. Worth is decided by condition, provenance and the buyer, and by an expert with the piece in hand. FREE AND PREMIUM Free: one identification, so you can see what a reading looks like. Your inventory, the condition assistant, the whole mark guide and CSV export stay free, however many pieces you record. Premium: up to 20 identifications a day. Straight after a reading you can photograph the mark as well without spending another identification. New subscribers can try it free for 3 days. DETAILS Reading a photograph needs an internet connection: the photograph is sent to our server and read by a third-party AI service (OpenAI); it is not stored and is used for nothing else. Your inventory, notes and photographs are stored on your device. English and Turkish. Amounts in Turkish lira, US dollars, euro or pounds. Measurements in centimetres or inches. Turn it over. The answer is usually on the base. SUBSCRIPTION Patina Premium is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. The subscription renews automatically unless it is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it any time in your App Store account settings.
