Learn to read Biblical Hebrew aloud, ten minutes a day, from the alef-bet to any verse of the Hebrew Bible in the original.
Mikra is built around one idea: you learn to read a real text, not isolated grammar. Every word deck and every lesson exists to get you reading the Bible.
WORDS
• The alphabet and vowel points as flash cards, each one spoken aloud
• Pronouns, numbers, and the small words that hold a sentence together
• The 1,000 commonest words of the Hebrew Bible in five bands, from the core 100 outward
• Every card shows how to say the word, its part of speech, its gender and number (or the verb's stem), and related words you can hear in place
• Collect words into your own sets with a tap, then study a set as a list or as shuffled cards
• Add to a set from the set itself: search a word and tap it, or scan your notes straight into it
• Scan notes: photograph a word list in English, Chinese or Hebrew, or paste one, and the words Mikra knows become a set
• Listening test: a set reads itself to you, one word at a time
VERSES
• The whole Hebrew Bible, all 39 books, every verse word by word with the translation beside the text
• Jonah, Genesis 1, and five Psalms carry short notes on the words a beginner meets first
• Daily phrases: everyday Hebrew — good morning, how are you, what's the weather today, where is the station — in eight situations, read, heard and tapped word by word like a verse
• Under each word, choose nothing, its meaning, or how to read it
• Hear any word or the whole verse at normal, slow, or slower speed
• Record yourself reading and play it back beside the app's reading
GRAMMAR
• 40 short lessons in five groups: reading the script, little words, nouns and pronouns, verbs, sentences
• Every example is a real verse from the bundled texts; tap one to hear it, then practise the examples as cards
NO STRINGS
• Meanings in English or Chinese (中文), your choice
• Works fully offline: no account, no ads, no tracking, no data collection
• Modern Israeli pronunciation
• Designed for complete beginners
