The Play update. The people and pets in your houses have a life of their own now, and nearly everything around them does something when you try it. Living on their own: left alone, people read in the armchair, wave, dance, stroll to the window or a free chair, and at night yawn and find a bed. Now and then somebody wishes for something in a little thought bubble, a cup, a cookie, a book, a hug or a nap, and beams when they get it. Walk anybody across the floor under your finger, and on an iPad two players can each walk somebody at the same time. The house answers a tap: TVs, faucets, showers and baths run, fridges and ovens open, radios play and whoever is near them dances, curtains close, presents pop open, the doorbell rings and somebody answers it, the telephone rings until somebody picks it up, and a tap on the blackboard starts a lesson. A tap on the sky over an outdoor room brings rain, snow or sunshine, and anybody in a raincoat jumps in the puddles. Things to try together: a teddy put in bed nods off, eggs on the stove become soup, a hat on the washing machine goes in the wash, friends around a cake sing and blow out the candles, and a cook at a stove ends up with dinner on a plate. The café, bakery and ice cream counters serve whoever stands in front of them. Pets and a pony: cats curl up on laps and in baskets, dogs fetch and follow, the Bunny House's five rabbits hop about, birds perch on a shoulder, and Button the pony gives a child a ride. Tap a bowl and they come to eat, or feed them from your hand. Twenty more cats and dogs can move in. Babies are looked after: a bottle, a spoon in the high chair, a bath in the basin, a rest on the changing table, and every stroller and baby carriage can be pushed and steered with the baby riding along. The maker makes babies of your own too. Things to ride and play with: the trike, the bicycles, the scooters, the sled and the rocking horses, a push on the garden swing, paper planes, a game of catch, every instrument from the toy drum to the cello and the grand piano, dancing in pairs, and a mop or a broom for the crumbs and the puddles. At a dressing table, somebody can have new hair and new glasses. Your houses: an outdoor room of your own, with the Garden and the Lawn in the Shop, the front of your house on one side and a garden under a sky that follows the day on the other. Thirty colors and a color wheel for floors and walls. Your street turns to dusk and then a starry night, with lanterns along the path. Hold a house to move it along your street, or hold a room to swap it with another, and a house can be taken away (the last one always stays). Chairs, sofas and TVs turn all four ways, and the cups and books on a table go along when the table moves. The sticker search finds more: the words children use ("couch", "bunny", "kitty") in every language, a plural or a small slip, and your last searches, one tap away. And everyone looks their best: softer cats, new rabbits, round mitten hands, faces turned toward you, costumes that move with them, and smooth slides between rooms and in and out of Play. The first time you meet something new in Play, a little hand shows you how it works. Playing together, everybody has their own Undo again, and both devices need this update.
Lumi is a little light, and this is her world. It's made of stickers – and everyone in it is fast asleep. Peel a sticker from the tray, stick it where its outline glows, and do the next. When the room is full, night falls: tap the lamps, and the room wakes up. The baker takes the buns out, the cat stretches, the music box starts to play. Then the next room is waiting. THIRTY-TWO PLACES, 320 ROOMS A road through six neighborhoods – Home, By the Sea, In Town, In the Woods, Make-Believe and Far Away – each opened by a family's home: a farm and a mermaid reef, Candy Shop Lane and a train station, a fairy wood, a theater and a toy factory, a star station, a castle and a palace, and at the end of the road, the Pajama Party House. Ten rooms in each, someone living in every one – and a bathroom in every place. The House is open from the first day, and the Village and the Farm follow, whole and free. Every place after that opens whole too, for sparks or, if you'd rather wait, built by Lumi for nothing in a week. HOUSES OF YOUR OWN Build up to six houses on your own street and fill their rooms with any sticker you've collected – a castle's throne beside a bakery's cat. Turn things round, change the floors and the wallpaper, set your whole street in a cherry orchard or a night garden. PLAY Bring the people and pets you've met into your houses, or make your own, and play: carry them from room to room, sit them on the sofa, tuck them into bed, cook soup, feed the cat, change outfits at the wardrobe, tap a face for a new one. Left alone, they read, dance, stroll and make little wishes. The house answers a tap – TVs, faucets, ovens, the doorbell – and there's a pony to ride. Up to four iPads or iPhones nearby can play in one house together. EVERY DAY A gift from Lumi, three little errands and a daily challenge. AND • A sticker album with close-ups, shiny stickers, stamps, stars and levels. • Find it!, a seek-and-find in the rooms you've finished. • Photo mode and a scrapbook. • Day and night, recoloring and combos. • Music that grows as a room fills, and a sound for everything – fourteen instruments, all played live. FOR GROWN-UPS Sparks are the one currency. You earn them by playing – finishing rooms, lighting lamps, errands, gifts – and spend them on new places, hats, floors, wallpapers and backdrops. Everything in the game can be earned by playing. The first three places are free, and every other place on the map says what it costs. For anyone who would rather not wait, the Shop sells jars of sparks, and Lifetime access: every place and room, now and the ones still to come, and all your own houses, people and pets, bought once and shared with your Apple family. Buying goes through the App Store's own confirmation, Ask to Buy works as usual, and nothing in the game pushes anyone to buy. No ads. No account. No tracking. No third-party code. Your world is saved in your own iCloud, so it follows you from iPhone to iPad, and, with iCloud on, bought sparks survive if the game is deleted. Settings has a page for grown-ups that says what has been bought and where sparks went, and the one switch for the game's anonymous play counts – a few numbers a week that help balance it. LANGUAGES The game is in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay and Hindi, sticker names and all.
