COMPASS SIGHT LINES AND FIELD NOTES • With the compass on, North and Aim buttons sit next to the view controls: tap North to keep the canvas north-up; hold Aim to cast a bearing line, release in place to fix it, drag off the button to cancel • While north-up or aiming, a large heading line crosses the screen with a big readout at the top, easy to read outdoors • New Field Notes layers keep sight lines and field points: drag a line's origin, bearing and length, and place a point where two lines cross; add notes to points, move them, or copy them to the current layer • A connected rangefinder adds fixed-length lines; it all works in projects without a coordinate system too POSITION MARKER • New crosshair marker: a true-to-scale accuracy ring, heading from the compass, and a label for the source (this device / single / float / fixed / corrections lost); it greys out after 10 seconds without an update • The marker is semi-transparent and fades away when Apple Pencil comes near; set its style, size and opacity in Settings ▸ Location & Ranging • Tap the marker to follow your position, place a point there or copy the coordinates VECTOR EDITING • Select now starts as a pointer: tap any vector shape on any layer to select it and switch to its layer; on a vector layer you can also select with a rectangle or lasso, everything else dims, and you can move, copy, rotate and scale the selection together • Box selection on pixel layers has been removed • Hold two fingers still on the selection for 0.6 s to rotate and scale it; otherwise two fingers move the view as usual • Rotation no longer snaps to fixed angles and follows your fingers exactly DRAWING AND INTERFACE • Quick straight lines: hold still mid-stroke and a freehand line turns straight; turn it off or change the hold time in Settings ▸ Input & Interface • The palette is now a device setting shared by all projects, and can be exported to a file and restored; an existing custom palette is carried over • The quick-action ball, layer panel and view controls can be picked up with a long press and placed anywhere; they open towards the canvas • iPhone hides the bottom status line for more drawing room (it still appears while measuring) TRACKS • Preview a GPX file before importing it, then place it by its coordinates or at the centre of the view; it works in projects without a coordinate system too • A more compact track recording card on iPhone OTHER • Projects with a Field Notes layer or a track placed at the view centre need this version or later; all other projects keep their format
InstaPunch Mapper is a field-mapping tool for orienteering mappers on iPad and iPhone. Set up a georeferenced canvas, lay an aerial image or online map underneath, sketch in the terrain with GPS and compass at hand, and export a high-resolution, georeferenced draft, all on one canvas, without bouncing between desktop tools. GEOREFERENCED CANVAS • Draw a box on Apple Maps and the canvas picks its UTM zone automatically • Or build the canvas straight from an aerial image with a JGW world file: scale, paper size and CRS in one step • Paper sizes up to A1; the canvas always keeps metres, paper millimetres and pixels in step • WGS84 / CGCS2000 / UTM; the canvas is always grid-north-up, with magnetic declination handled separately BASE MAPS • Apple Maps satellite and street tiles as an online base map, with an offline cache for the field • Or connect your own XYZ tile service (the API key stays in the device Keychain) • Import aerial images up to 65535 × 65535 px at full resolution, no downsampling • JGW / PGW / TFW / WLD and GeoTIFF coordinates are read automatically; images without a world file are placed with two or more control points • Several base maps line up automatically when their coordinates agree SKETCH ON SITE • Drawing resolution follows the map scale, up to 900 dpi, so what you draw is what prints • Pen widths in paper millimetres (scale with zoom) or screen pixels (constant on screen), with the real-world width shown alongside • Technical pen, ink, pencil, marker and soft brush with Apple Pencil pressure and hover • One stroke, one undo; pinch and rotate the canvas without touching pixels or history • Live scale bar at the bottom of the canvas, with your choice of style and units; unlock it to drag • Hold still mid-stroke to straighten a freehand line; a quick-action ball you can park anywhere switches between freehand, shapes, eraser and field tools PIXEL AND VECTOR LAYERS • Pixel layers are stored in tiles, so large maps stay smooth • Vector layers keep polylines, Bézier curves, rectangles, ellipses, circles and polygons editable: drag handles, continue, split, close • Tap, rectangle or lasso to select shapes, then move, copy, rotate or scale them together • Rasterize vector shapes into a pixel layer whenever you want • Opacity, lock, visibility and drag-to-reorder for every layer; imported paper sketches with a JGW snap into place GPS, COMPASS AND TRACKS • A crosshair position marker with a true-to-scale accuracy ring, compass heading and position source • Compass sight lines: hold to cast a bearing, release to fix it, and place an annotated point where two lines cross; a rangefinder adds fixed-length lines • Record GPS tracks and keep several in one track layer; preview a GPX before import and place it by its coordinates or at the view centre; export GPX EXTERNAL RTK AND CORRECTIONS • Connect a Bluetooth Classic RTK receiver through an InstaPunch Bridge, or a BLE device directly • Use this device or the RTK receiver as the position source; the canvas location and track recording follow the receiver, with fix type, satellites and accuracy shown live • NTRIP 1.0 / 2.0 (CORS) corrections, with the account password kept in the device Keychain • Multi-leg measurements label every segment with length and bearing, in paper millimetres and real metres EXPORT AND BACKUP • PNG / JPG / TIFF / BMP at 300 / 600 / 900 dpi or any higher resolution, with a matching JGW world file • Exports open georeferenced in OCAD, OpenOrienteering Mapper and other desktop mapping tools • Paper presets or free framing, AirPrint PDF printing, GPX export for tracks • Auto-save, history snapshots and automatic backups; share and import projects as .ipmproj files • Project browser with folders, colour labels and search Your projects, tracks and location stay on your device. No account, no ads, no tracking. Interface in English and Simplified Chinese, switchable from the project library.
