CBTvr is now available as a research, teaching and personal tool for non-commercial use. It is provided as a service to the research community and remains the exclusive property of the University of Rochester.
An immersive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) mobile health app
The CBTvr app was created for use in the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) healthcare system to augment and/or support behavioral health interventions for patients. “Dr. Lauren” (a therapist) guides users through sessions from a virtual office setting. There are 8 CBT sessions designed to teach cognitive behavior skills for mastery of dysfunctional thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Modules (some as brief as 5 min others approximately 15-20 minutes in duration, depending on user’s engagement) include psychoeducation on the interaction of thoughts, feelings and behaviors; understanding antecedents, response, and consequences of behaviors; automatic thoughts; thinking traps; challenging thoughts; challenging behaviors; coping through ‘grounding’; and ends with a review. The CBTvr app has been developed by the Health Lab at the University of Rochester.
