A word puzzle of ancient expeditions. Spell, Explore, Restore the relics.
Nine letters. Twelve words hidden in them. One secret the chamber will not give up easily.
Relic Words is a word puzzle wrapped in an expedition journal. Every chamber hands you nine letters and asks for the twelve words buried in them - and holds back a thirteenth, the secret word, with only a riddle as a clue. Find it and the chamber gives up its gold.
THREE ROUTES OVER THE SAME GROUND
Fifty places on every expedition, and three different things asked of you at each one.
DAY - twelve words hidden in nine letters, and a secret word beneath them with a riddle for a clue.
NIGHT - no word list at all. A riddle in the dark uncovers itself one word at a time as you play, and the answer is a nine-letter word that spends every tile on the board. The letter in the centre is one every word must use.
EXPERT - the same daylight places on harder ground. The nine tiles are themselves the secret word, and the coloured tile in the middle is a letter every word has to carry.
Each route keeps its own progress, its own relics and its own sealed vaults, and you can change route at any time on the map. One thousand and fifty chambers in all.
SEVEN EXPEDITIONS
Follow the Nile through the Sands of Egypt. Cross Lake Texcoco to the Aztec Sun Stone. Cut through the Maya canopy to Pakal's crypt. Walk the Templar trail from Acre to the hidden vault. Climb from Olympus to the Underworld. March with the samurai from Kiyosu to the shogun's shrine. Ride the old road from the Jade Gate to the emperor's tomb. India is next.
SEVEN HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN SECRET WORDS
Every day and expert chamber keeps one back, and every one carries its own riddle. "Up before the sun." "Makes it law, or plays it out." Uncover them all in an expedition and its sealed chamber opens. No secret word is used twice anywhere in the game.
ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWO RELICS TO RESTORE
Clear five chambers and a relic comes back together piece by piece - the Gilded Ankh, the Jade Serpent, Pakal's death mask, the Shogun's shrine mirror, the Mercury Map of the Empire. Each one earns its place in your treasure hall and its entry in the field journal.
SEVEN GODS OF THE UNDERWORLD
Night pays differently. Every five chambers hands back one piece of a picture, and ten pieces make the god who keeps that expedition's dark.
A JOURNAL THAT WRITES ITSELF
Every site you reach adds a dated page in your own hand, with a sketch of what you found there. It reads like a real expedition log.
FIVE WAYS OUT WHEN YOU ARE STUCK
The bomb lights a letter in every word left. The wand takes a whole word out of the dark. The torch lights one letter everywhere it hides. The compass points at the secret. The golden idol pays you double.
NO ADVERTISING
Not one ad, anywhere in the game. No banners, no video, no interruptions. The first twenty-five chambers of Egypt are free to play, with ten more on each of the night and expert routes. One purchase opens every expedition - including the ones still to come. That is the only purchase in the game.
