Your coin finally sounds like one. • SOUNDS: the coin whirs as it spins and rings as it lands. Prefer the classic sounds? Settings › Sound Style • DIAGNOSTIC TEST: redesigned as cards, with heads and tails settling as it runs • LANDSCAPE: About and the Diagnostic Test open from the side, so the coin stays in view • Open on the ? again: Settings › Clear Previous Result • Predictive back, a quicker Settings transition and a smaller download
Tap or shake to flip. 82 coins plus your own. No tracking, no cheating.
15 years later... an AI-assisted refactor of the modern rewrite of the app that started it all. Still free, still ad-free, and still open source. Tap the coin or shake your phone. It flips, it lands, it tells you which side came up. That's the whole pitch — everything else exists to make that one interaction pleasant. ★ 82 COINS TO FLIP All 50 US state quarters, plus the District of Columbia. The George Washington dollar, the JFK half-dollar and the Sacagawea dollar. 24 national Euro designs. The Canadian Loonie and Toonie. A two-headed dollar, for when you'd rather not leave things to chance. Or pick Random and let the app choose a different coin every single flip. ★ FLIP YOUR OWN COIN — FINALLY! Put your own photos on heads and tails. Pick an image, frame it with pan, zoom, rotate and mirror, and your coin joins the picker pinned to the top of your favorites. It's ringed in the same colors the app writes HEADS and TAILS in, so any picture still reads as a coin — switch the ring off if you photographed an actual coin. ★ STREAKS Turn it on and a run of identical results counts up beside the result: HEADS ×7. Your longest run for each side is kept in Settings. Streaks survive a restart, because the whole point is holding your run up to somebody hours later. ★ SOUNDS — NEW The coin whirs as it spins and rings as it lands, and a new record plays a fanfare. Prefer the sounds this app has made since 2011? Set Sound Style to Classic. ★ FAVORITES Star the coins you actually use and they collect in their own section at the top of the picker, so you're not scrolling past all 51 quarters to find the Loonie. Or just search. ★ CALL THE SIDES WHATEVER YOU LIKE Custom labels replace HEADS and TAILS with anything you want. Yes / No. Beer / Tacos. CLAUDE / HUMAN. ★ PROVE IT'S FAIR Not convinced it's random? The built-in Diagnostic Test flips the coin up to ten million times and shows the split between heads and tails settling as it goes, and how often the result changed. Want a different entropy source? Swap Kotlin's Random for Java's SecureRandom in Settings. (Sorry — still no cheating.) ★ BUILT FOR MODERN ANDROID Jetpack Compose throughout, with Material You colors pulled from your wallpaper on Android 12+. Light and dark. Portrait and landscape. Heads and tails tallies with a one-tap reset. Sound, haptics and animation you can each switch off. 13 languages. ★ NO ADS, NO TRACKING, NO ACCOUNT No advertising. No analytics. Nothing to sign up for. The app asks for exactly one permission — vibrate — and has no internet permission at all, so it couldn't phone home if it wanted to. Open source code, released to the public domain: https://github.com/banasiak/CoinFlip2 === FOR LONGTIME USERS === Yes, this is the same app, from the same developer, signed with the same key it had in 2011. Simple Coin Flip has been torn down and rebuilt twice since — once in 2023 as a Modern Android Development app, and again in 2026 with an AI pair programmer doing the typing. It is still, fundamentally, an app that shows you a picture of a coin. It is still free, still no ads or unsafe permissions, and still open source. No Android Wear support. I'm not interested in it anymore. Go buy a G-Shock, you'll be happier. No more add-on packs, either. Google eventually realized that an official API for loading resources out of any app on your phone was not great for privacy, and removed it. If you bought the Simple Coin Flip Mega Pack back in the day, thank you — every state quarter that was in it now ships in the app for free. Coin images come from the United States Mint and the European Central Bank. The Claude Code coin wears Claude Code's own mascot. //TODO: Write letter to Canada begging forgiveness.
