Radiobiological calculator for EQD2, BED, nFED
RadBioCalc converts radiotherapy dose and fractionation schedules using the linear quadratic model, including the biologically effective dose (BED), equivalent dose in 2 Gy fractions (EQD2), and fraction equivalent dose calculations. The app is designed as a focused learning aid for radiobiology students exploring how different treatment schedules compare biologically. Example radiobiology questions that can be answered within seconds of using this app: (1) What dose, given in 5 fractions, is equivalent to 27 Gy in 3 fractions (where α/β=2). (2) A hypothetical normal tissue has α/β = 2. It has received 30 Gy in 10 fractions in a previous course of radiotherapy. (a) Assuming that the normal tissue has a cumulative EQD2 tolerance of 70 Gy, how much tolerance is remaining in terms of EQD2? (b) If I want to deliver a second course of radiotherapy to this normal tissue in 5 fractions, what normal tissue tolerance dose should I set?
