About this app
Sacred secretion and christ oil lunar calendar, page-cited to George W. Carey
Read full description
Cloister Cycle is a lunar calendar and a private practice journal, built from the writings George W. Carey published between 1917 and 1920. Carey held that once a month, when the moon returns to the sign the sun occupied at your birth, a seed leaves the solar plexus and begins a journey through the body, taking on what he calls the Christ oil (Wonders of the Human Body, 1918, p.107). Most readers today call it the sacred secretion, a phrase Carey never writes. This app does not argue that claim and does not assert it in its own voice. What it does is show you where the moon actually is, tell you what Carey wrote about that moment, and give you the book and the page it came from, so you can check it against the scan yourself. WHAT IT DOES A calendar that measures rather than assumes: The moon's transit of your natal sign is found by stepping the ephemeris and bisecting the exact crossing to the minute. The familiar figure near 27.3 days is what comes out of the calculation, not what goes into it. Nothing in the app assumes a cycle length, so the dates stay correct in any year. A reader, not a paraphrase: Three of Carey's books in full, to read offline: The Tree of Life (1917), The Wonders of the Human Body (1918), and God-Man: The Word Made Flesh (1920). Every doctrinal statement the app shows you carries its book and page. A journal nobody grades: Note what you observed, day by day. Five observances are offered, because Carey names those five, each with the page that says why. There is no streak, no score, and no screen that tells you that you failed. Three vocabularies: The same passages can be read in scriptural, anatomical or Sanskrit terms. All three registers are Carey's own, so nothing you read has been invented to suit a modern taste. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO It will not tell you what to do with your body. Carey's proscriptions are presented as his, attributed and page-cited, never as instructions from this app. There is no diagnosis, no dosage, no regimen, no supplier and no advice. Where Carey contradicts himself, the app says so and shows both pages rather than choosing for you. PRIVACY No account, no sign-in, no server, no analytics, no advertising. The ephemeris runs on your device. Your journal is written on your device and can be exported to a file you keep. Nothing about you leaves the phone, because there is nowhere for it to go. PRICE $19.99, paid once. Not a subscription. One purchase unlocks the app on your Google account. SOURCES All three works are in the public domain in the United States. Passages are quoted verbatim rather than summarized, so you are reading Carey himself and not someone's account of him.
