Walk around with your phone to map indoor noise levels on a live heatmap.
NoiseMapper turns your smartphone into a tool for visualizing indoor noise as a color-coded heatmap. By combining AR-based position tracking with microphone-based noise measurement, it lets you survey the "sound unevenness" of an office, factory, home, or shop without any dedicated equipment. Questions that used to rely on gut feeling — "Which part of this floor is loudest?" or "Where's the quietest spot in this room?" — now get a concrete, color-mapped answer. ■ Who is this for? - Anyone prioritizing noise control or comfort improvements in an office or factory - People planning soundproofing work, or deciding where to place outdoor AC units or water heaters - House hunters comparing road or neighbor noise across rooms before moving in - Administrators of daycares, schools, hospitals, or libraries where quiet matters - Cafe, shop, or coworking space owners who want to understand their acoustic environment - Students and hobbyists building a noise map for a school project or personal research ■ Key features Noise distribution measurement: Create a project, enter the area size, and optionally add a floor plan image. Point your phone's rear camera at the floor and walk slowly — AR tracks your position in real time while the app logs the equivalent noise level (LAeq) of the last second, every second. IDW interpolation smoothly fills in the whole area, including spots you never directly measured, and you can correct heading drift by rotating two fingers on screen. Spot measurement: A standalone feature for checking one specific location right away. Tap the area, and a 10-second measurement starts on the spot, showing and saving the resulting LAeq — great for quickly checking a specific noise source. Results & statistics: Open a completed project to see the heatmap over your floor plan, plus minimum, average, and maximum levels, point count, and coverage rate, so you can spot the loudest and quietest areas at a glance. One-point calibration: If you own a sound level meter, enter its reading at the same spot to save a single offset value, automatically applied to every future measurement. Measurement still works without calibration — just treat results as reference values. ■ App highlights - High-accuracy indoor position tracking powered by ARCore, even where GPS is weak - Records the equivalent noise level (LAeq) over the last second, not an instantaneous value, for stable readings even with variable sounds - IDW interpolation converts decibels to energy before blending, keeping the heatmap physically correct - Use your own floor plan image as the background for an intuitive, real-layout heatmap - Light and dark themes supported - All data stays on your device — works fully offline ■ Permissions Used solely to power measurement, for no other purpose. - Microphone: measures the noise level (volume) - Camera: the rear camera feed is analyzed in real time for AR position tracking; no video or images are ever saved or transmitted - Location: may be required by your OS for ARCore's position tracking to work correctly ■ Important notes NoiseMapper is a simple noise measurement app using your phone's built-in microphone; it is not a certified, legally calibrated sound level meter. Values can vary by device, environment, and calibration, so treat them as approximate reference values only. For measurements requiring legal evidence or strict precision, use a professional sound level meter or certified measurement service. Whether it's a place that feels too noisy or one you want to keep quiet, NoiseMapper lets you draw the sound you couldn't see before onto a map, in color and data.
