See how left, right, West and East outlets cover the same stories, once a day
Sides puts the day's top news stories side by side, so you can compare how left, center and right outlets, and Western and Eastern outlets, cover the same events. ONCE A DAY, THE TOP STORIES Each morning Sides gathers headlines and short summaries from 29 English-language news outlets and groups them into a daily news digest of the top stories, usually 5 to 10. Each story is covered by at least three different outlets. The app downloads one file a day and keeps it, so the latest digest opens instantly and stays readable offline. COMPARE HEADLINES, SIDE BY SIDE • Headline wording: real quotes from each outlet's own headline or summary, grouped by political lean and labeled by outlet. • Coverage bars show which outlets, and which sides, covered each story. • Blindspots: a story covered only by left-leaning outlets, or only by Western outlets, is marked as such. • What all sources agree on, what each side leaves out, contested claims, and opinion pieces kept apart from the reporting. WESTERN AND EASTERN OUTLETS Alongside UK, US and European outlets, Sides reads outlets based in the Middle East, India, China, Japan and South Korea, plus The Moscow Times. A West / East view compares how each group frames a story and lists East–West contradictions when the day's coverage has them. When it does not, the app says none were found. State-controlled outlets such as CGTN carry a visible "state media" label. They are included so their framing can be compared, not endorsed. EVERY POINT LINKS TO ITS SOURCE Tap a source to read the original article on the outlet's own website. Sides shows headlines and short summaries only, never full articles. HOW IT WORKS, AND ITS LIMITS • The comparison is generated automatically by an AI model from headlines and short summaries, once a day. No human editor writes or reviews it. • Before publication, each point is checked automatically against the headlines and summaries it cites. Points that cannot be traced to a source are left out. • Political-lean labels come from published media-bias ratings by AllSides and Ad Fontes Media. Outlets outside the UK/US left–right scale, including state media, appear in the West / East comparison only. • Sides does not rate the accuracy of any outlet or story. • The content sources are listed in the app: Settings › Outlets and ratings shows each outlet with its lean, region, ownership and rating source. ALSO • Phone and tablet layouts. On larger tablets the sides appear in columns. • Light and dark themes, and your device's text size up to 200%. • No account and no sign-in. FREE, WITH OPTIONAL SIDES PLUS All the news in Sides is free. The free app shows a small banner ad at the bottom of the screen; ads never appear inside the sourced coverage, and ad requests are non-personalized. Free readers can start 2 new topic comparisons a day, and topics other readers already asked about always open free. Sides Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly: no ads and 10 new topic comparisons a day. It renews automatically until you cancel; manage or cancel it in Google Play at any time. Restore purchases is in Settings. Anyone who bought the earlier one-time Remove ads keeps no ads for good.
