What's newin version 1.2.0
Cards can now show their word and say it out loud, in one language or two. It starts off — switch it on in Settings. Part of Premium, free to try for 24 hours. You can also choose which way a swipe moves the cards: sideways or up and down. Health information, the honest page about screens at this age, now has its own card in the menu. Settings has been redrawn, with an icon on every row.
About this app
Age-matched cards for babies, first words for toddlers, and a baby-proof lock.
Baby Cards Smart Lock shows your baby the pictures their eyes can actually see right now — bold black-and-white patterns for a newborn, color and detail as they grow. Hand the phone over with the smart lock on and it stays a picture book: taps, swipes and grabs can't exit the app, open your notifications or change a setting. Built by a dad for his son. Later on, the cards can also print and speak what they show, so the same deck turns into first words. THE SMART LOCK • One tap locks the screen. Your baby can watch, touch and grab freely. • To unlock, hold a corner for 3 seconds — too deliberate for a baby by accident, easy enough for you one-handed. • Back gesture, volume keys and stray touches are absorbed while locked. • Optional screen pinning blocks Android's own Home and Recents gestures too — the tightest lock a normal app may apply. MAKE THE LOCK YOURS • Choose the corner the unlock button lives in, for whichever hand is free. • Allow swiping while locked: cards still change, everything else stays blocked. • Block the volume keys, or leave them working. • Auto-advance cards on a timer you set, for hands-free viewing. 1000+ CARDS ACROSS 49 TOPICS Patterns, shapes and colors. Animals, transport, fruit and vegetables, mealtime, the kitchen, bathroom, toys, clothes, the street, school and the night sky. Most subjects come in three styles: simple, cute and realistic. Browse a topic as a grid, or open "All Cards (Random)" for a shuffled slideshow. FOUR AGE STAGES, IN ORDER OF DIFFICULTY The cards follow how baby vision actually develops, so the app grows with your child. • 0–1 months — Black-and-white patterns. The high-contrast edges a newborn can see. • 2–3 months — Finer patterns with red, plus bright shapes. Eyesight sharpens, color begins. • 4–5 months — Flat, boldly colored shapes and everyday objects. Some detail comes through. • 6+ months — A whole world to discover, in detail and in several styles. Name each card. • All topics — every card, at any age, whenever you want to browse freely. Every stage has its own "About this age" page. The "Health information" page covers screens at this age, corrected age for babies born early, and why none of it stands in for your own doctor. WORDS ON THE CARDS Off by default: a first session is the picture and nothing else. Switch them on in Settings and the same cards become first words, well past six months. • The name of what the card shows, printed under the picture, in one language or two. • The same word read aloud, recorded in all nine languages. • Shown with the card, after a pause, or only on a tap — one that works even while locked. Free for 24 hours from the first time you switch one on, then part of the purchase below. TRY EVERY TOPIC FIRST Every one of the 49 topics opens with its first cards free: you see what you would unlock before deciding. For the rest, two ways, both behind a parental gate (a sum only a grown-up solves): • Watch a short ad to unlock one topic. • Or one small purchase unlocks every topic and card, forever, including what comes later. No subscription. MADE FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS, AND FOR PARENTS • Silent by default. No sound at all unless you ask for the spoken word. • No animation, no flashing, no strobing. One still picture, gentle transitions. • Works offline. Every card is bundled with the app. • No tracking and no analytics. Nothing is collected about you or your baby. • Available in nine languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. A NOTE ON SCREENS Prolonged, unattended screen use is not recommended for babies, and this app does not pretend otherwise. It is built as the opposite of what that advice warns about: shared not solitary, still not moving, quiet and short. A few minutes, brightness low, not near bedtime, always with mum or dad. The most interesting thing your baby can look at is your face — these cards add variety, they replace nothing.
