Learn all 1330 Thirukkural - a story, a lesson and a question for each one.
Kuralagam (குறளகம்) puts all 1330 Thirukkural in your pocket — not just the verses, but a complete lesson built around each one. Most Thirukkural apps give you the couplet and a one-line gloss. Kuralagam gives you five things for every single kural, all 1330 of them, with nothing repeated and nothing left blank. WHAT YOU GET FOR EVERY KURAL • The couplet in verified Tamil, set in its traditional four-and-three metre, exactly as a printed edition prints it • எளிய பொருள் — the meaning in plain, modern Tamil • நீதிக் கதை — a short moral story that shows the kural happening in an everyday life • வாழ்க்கைப் பாடம் — the life lesson in a line you can carry with you • சிந்தனை கேள்வி — a reflection question, with four answers to choose from ANSWERS THAT TEACH, NOT JUST MARK The four answers are not right-or-wrong. Each one is a real way of reading the kural, scored out of five, and each comes with its own Tamil feedback. Pick the surface reading and the app tells you what you did see, and where the kural goes further. There is no tick, no cross, and no shaming — just a clearer reading than the one you came in with. WORKS COMPLETELY OFFLINE The whole corpus ships inside the app. No sign-in, no account, no internet needed. Learn on a bus, in a village, on a flight — it all works the same. READ IT IN YOUR LANGUAGE Any explanation can be translated on your device into English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi or Bengali. The language pack downloads once, then works offline like everything else. English readers also get the couplet in Tamil transliteration, so you can read a kural aloud without knowing the script. FIND ANY KURAL, FAST • Search by number — type 1330 and you are there • Search by Tamil text — any word in any couplet • Search by topic — friendship, anger, learning, kindness, money and more • Browse the full library: 3 பால், 133 அதிகாரம், grouped by இயல் just as the text is organised KEEP THE HABIT • Today's kural on the home screen, fresh every morning • An optional daily reminder at 10:00 • A streak that counts the days you kept going • Six badges, from your first kural to thirty days • Favourites, and a resume card that puts you back where you stopped BUILT FOR TAMIL Tamil stacks its vowel signs above and below the letter, so most apps clip them. Kuralagam sets every line with the room Tamil actually needs, in two Tamil-first fonts. The couplet resizes itself so a long kural never wraps into a shapeless block — it always reads as four words above and three below. Dark mode, adjustable text size, and a Tamil or English interface, whichever you prefer. ABOUT THE TEXT The Tamil had to be exact, so the corpus was cross-checked against four independent editions, including the proofread Wikisource text and the Parimelazhagar recension, and every disagreement was settled verse by verse. An automated check runs over the result: no broken characters, no misplaced vowel signs, correct chapter numbering, and the metre intact in all 1330. NO ADS. NO ACCOUNTS. NO TRACKING. Kuralagam has no advertising, asks for no login, and collects nothing about you. Your answers, favourites and streak stay on your phone. The Thirukkural is 2000 years old and takes about two minutes a day. Start with kural 1. Built in Tamil Nadu by Sakthimari S. Questions and corrections are welcome at kuralbykuralagam@gmail.com — if you spot an error in any of the 1330, tell me and it will be fixed in the next update.
