Bonuses now turn up on the board every few correct answers: a potion makes the snake shorter, a heart gives back a lost life, and a snail slows the game down. The snake has scales and a friendlier face, the clouds drift across the sky, and the cards and menus are painted to match the rest of the game. From the fifth time the app is opened, it may ask a parent for a rating. The request can be put off or turned off for good, and "Rate the app" is also in the menu.
Snake meets the times table: eat the number that answers the question.
Multiplication Snake is the classic snake game with a times-table question above the board. Four numbers lie on the board, and the snake has to eat the answer: 56, if the question is 7 × 8. Each right answer makes the snake a little longer and a little faster. A wrong number costs one of three hearts and shows the fact worked out (7 × 8 = 56), then the next question comes and the game carries on. The wrong numbers are the slips children really make: 48 or 63 for 7 × 8, from counting one row too few or too many. The snake never hits a wall. It leaves one edge and comes back on the other, so only its own body can stop it. A child who knows the answer shouldn't lose a heart to the steering. Every few correct answers a bonus turns up. A potion makes the snake shorter, a heart gives back a lost life, and a snail slows the game down. WHAT TO PRACTISE • The whole table up to 100 • Answers up to 20, 30 or 50, for children who are just starting • One table at a time, such as the 7s, with 7 × 4 and 4 × 7 both in it Each exercise keeps its own best score. PROGRESS The progress page shows how many answers were right in each exercise and lists the facts that keep going wrong, for example 7 × 8, right 2 times out of 9. FOR PARENTS • No account and no sign-up • One banner ad at the top of the screen, away from the board and the arrow keys. Ads are non-personalised and suitable for all ages, as Google's Families policy requires. • Scores and progress are stored only on the device • Sound and vibration can be switched off • The game works offline; only the banner needs a connection • English, Polish, German, Spanish and French, switchable in the settings
