St. Luke’s Hospital Rathgar Medicines guide was prepared by Dr. Sinead McDermott (Consultant Microbiologist) and members of the St. Luke’s pharmacy team, under the direction of the hospital’s Drugs Advisory Committee. The information in the St. Luke’s Hospital Rathgar Medicines guide is designed for use in St. Luke’s Hospital by health care professionals. It will act as a guide to aid clinical decision making. The guide is divided up into: Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines General Guidelines Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines About these Guidelines The guidelines provide an evidence- based resource to guide empiric antibiotic prescribing for patients. Sections are distinguished by body system and detail recommended doses and duration of treatment as well as alternative choices for penicillin allergies and reactions. Antimicrobial guidelines are “guides” only and may not apply to all patients and clinical situations. They are not intended to override clinician’s judgement. Unless specified otherwise, restricted antibiotics will require microbiology approval prior to use. Features Adult antibiotic guidelines for common infections Antibiotic prophylaxis in surgery Sepsis treatment guidance IV to oral/enteral switch advice General Guidelines The general guidelines include Intravenous Drug Administration guidelines Systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) anti-emetic guidelines Links to SACT prescribing resources Other clinical guidance The App will be updated on an ongoing basis.
