What's newin version 1.0.0
The chart now marks what the voyage has shown you: a gold star where a god appeared, a bolt for a squall, a spiral for Charybdis, and small rings for the sights of the first hundred kilometers once you zoom in close. Tap a mark for the place, its distance from Troy and the line spoken there. One hollow ring sits ahead of the ship: something is waiting, and the chart will not say what. On the voyage, a flick now settles onto the nearest god, squall or encounter as it does onto a stop.
About this app
Walk the Odyssey. Every kilometer you walk sails the ship from Troy to Ithaca.
Sail the Odyssey turns your daily walking into the oldest journey in the world. Between the beach at Troy and the door of the house on Ithaca lie 3,650 kilometers. Every kilometer you walk in the real world moves a ship along that line. Every fifty kilometers opens the next chapter of the Odyssey: 73 chapters, from the burning city to the olive-tree bed. Walk them all and you have walked for a year. THE VOYAGE The app opens on the sea itself. Your ship sits in the middle of a side-scrolling night world: coasts, storms, islands, the Cyclops' cave, the Sirens, the strait of Scylla and Charybdis, and the gods themselves on the water: Poseidon rising from the swell, Athena turning into an owl, Zeus with his bolt. Drag the water to sail back over everything you have already covered. Ahead of the bow there is only fog, because the sea ahead is the walking you have not done yet. THE BOOK Seventeen sections and 73 chapters, retold in Odysseus' own voice and opened by your feet, not by a timer. Under the voyage a single line of the log speaks for where you are: at the oars, under sail, alone on a raft, on the island road home. THE CHART A map of the whole Mediterranean route with your ship on it, the day you are on, the distance left, and an arrival forecast based on your own pace. YOUR LOGBOOK Lifetime steps and kilometers, a heatmap of the year, the landfalls you have reached, your best streak. Choose a dawn or night theme, turn on the quiet sound of the sea, and let the evening log send you one line at the end of a walked day. YOUR SAIL Eight sails, earned by walking: a week in a row, the first landfall, the Cyclops, a month in a row, halfway, three ships in company, Ithaca. Hoist the one you like in your logbook and it flies on your ship, on the sea and on the chart, where your fleet can see it. Nothing is bought, and nothing is won with it. ON YOUR HOME SCREEN A widget with the ship, the distance sailed and the next stop, from a tiny 1x1 square up to a full strip of night sea. SHIPS IN COMPANY With Voyager you can sail alongside people you know. Scan each other's code and their ship appears on your sea and on your chart, under the name they chose. Only that name, the distance sailed and the colour of your sail are shared, and only with the people you add. It stays off until you open it. YOUR STEPS STAY ON YOUR PHONE Sail the Odyssey reads the step counter built into your phone, or your daily steps from Health Connect if a watch or another app records them. No ads, no analytics, no account needed. Your steps are stored on your device and nowhere else. Tell the app your height and it works out the rest. FREE PASSAGE AND VOYAGER The free passage is the whole voyage, every chapter, credited at three kilometers a day. Voyager, a single one-time purchase, removes the daily cap: every kilometer you walk is sailed the same day, and every kilometer you walked past the cap before upgrading is credited the moment you do. Miss a day and nothing is lost. The ship rides at anchor until you walk again. The sea waits. Available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Turkish and Russian.
