About this app
Mountain, crag and wild camping forecasts, weather alerts and aurora outlooks
Read full description
Choose where and when to head for the hills with Mountain Weather. Get independent forecasts for named hills, mountain regions and climbing crags across Scotland, England and Wales. MOUNTAIN WEATHER AT A GLANCE Search a hill, place or region. Compare forecast days, wind and gusts, rainfall, summit temperature, cloud base and the chance of clear tops. The mountain picture helps you see how conditions vary through the day. Scores can go below zero when hill conditions are severe. CLIMBING AND WILD CAMPING Explore named-crag forecasts with climbing conditions, rock context and sunshine guidance where available. Overnight camping forecasts bring together wind, rain, temperature and moonlight to help you compare nights. Weather-led kit prompts offer practical reminders, not a substitute for experience or preparation. AFTER DARK AND AURORA See aurora, stars, moonlight and meteor guidance for your selected viewpoint. Aurora ratings combine activity with local viewing conditions, including cloud and darkness. Set an aurora watch to be notified when a qualifying viewing opportunity is forecast. An alert is not a guarantee of a sighting. WATCH THE WEATHER YOU WANT Follow a hill or region, monitor a planned objective or look for a multi-day weather window. Choose preferred days for climbing alerts and watch for possible inversions. Manage your active notifications in one place. EXPLORE BRITAIN Use the weather map to explore mountain regions and peaks. Compare regional day scores and the UK weekend outlook before opening a detailed forecast. Save favourite peaks and use location to find nearby hills. OFFLINE REPORTS AND CLEARER READING Downloaded Mountain Weather reports remain available when your signal disappears. Check their issue time before setting out. Adjustable text sizes and light and dark appearances make forecasts easier to read. CROSS-CHECK BEFORE YOU GO Follow publication alerts for the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) and, in covered Scottish areas, the Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS). Their reports open on the providers' websites and require a connection. Mountain Weather does not reproduce their reports and is not affiliated with MWIS or SAIS. Mountain Weather is independent and is not an official warning or avalanche-forecast authority. Use it alongside Met Office warnings, relevant avalanche information and the conditions you observe. Scores describe forecast weather, not terrain, underfoot conditions or your party's experience. PLAN YOUR TRIP Compare drive times and relevant accommodation options. Mountain Weather is free to use, with no subscription. Optional accommodation bookings may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you, helping support the service. Forecast coverage and specialist details vary by location and available data. Mountain weather can change quickly. Carry suitable navigation and clothing, and be ready to change your plan.
