... when the bee buzzed onto Google Play in a store-ready edition, went on a data diet with a saver mode, seated nearby people beside the chat and reported radar arrivals and estate notices as chat lines, dinged for new IMs even from a pocketed phone, let you pick which content ratings search and the guide show, opened profiles straight from IM headers with online status and copy-ready keys, and swept out a pre-launch nest of bugs from auto-reconnect to double payments.
A tiny Second Life client: a TypeScript / HTML / CSS running in a WebView.
Minibee is a tiny, fast Second Life client focused on what you often need most: chatting, teleporting, checking the map, and keeping an eye on what's happening in-world. It doesn't try to be a smaller 3D viewer. Instead, Minibee leaves out the heavy graphical rendering and focuses on communication and grid navigation. That makes it quick to start, light on resources, and much more practical on phones, slower connections, or older hardware. ### Stay connected * Chat in nearby locations, groups, private messages, and conference IMs from one place. * Keep up with friends and contacts without having to launch a full 3D viewer. * Browse the official Destination Guide and Blogger Network to find places and events across the grid. * Stay connected from your phone when you're away from your main computer, or when your connection isn't fast enough for a full viewer. ### Explore the grid * Use the interactive map, friends list, object search, and region information to find your way around. * Teleport by searching for a destination or selecting a location on the map, without waiting for an entire 3D region to load. * Check the local radar to see which avatars are nearby in a simple text-based view. * View parcel and land information, and search the grid for people, places, and groups. ### Lightweight by design * Starts quickly and keeps its footprint small. * Uses far fewer graphical resources than a conventional 3D viewer. * Works well for staying connected on phones, older computers, and slower networks. * Run it alongside your regular viewer, or use it to keep multiple accounts connected with minimal overhead. ### A different way to use Second Life Minibee is deliberately text-and-map based. It does not render avatars, objects, or the 3D world around you. That's not a missing feature - it's the point. Sometimes you just want to answer a message, check who's online, teleport to a location, chat in a group, or see what's happening on the grid. Minibee is built for exactly those moments. Under the hood, a native Rust core handles the heavy lifting, while the interface is built with TypeScript and HTML. ### Open and independent * Sign in using your normal Second Life account credentials. * Minibee is an independent open-source project and follows Linden Lab's Third Party Viewer Policy. * Script dialogs, permission requests, and other important prompts always require your explicit confirmation. * Links received in chat are opened only after you confirm that you want to leave the app. * Minibee is released under the LGPL 2.1 licence and developed independently by Pantera Północy. Minibee is for Second Life residents who want a quick, lightweight way to stay connected, find their way around the grid, and handle the everyday stuff without firing up a full 3D viewer. This software is NOT provided, endorsed, or supported by Linden Lab.
