Afternoon Checkers brings the checkers you grew up with to a sunny study table. A walnut board with cream and charcoal pieces, crowned kings you can't miss, and a friendly computer opponent at the level you choose. Real English draughts The standard rules on an 8 × 8 board: move diagonally forward, jumps are compulsory, keep jumping when you can, and reach the far row to be crowned. Kings move and jump both ways. Win by taking every piece or leaving your opponent without a move. Three opponents • Easy is relaxed — perfect for getting back into the game. • Medium thinks a few moves ahead. • Hard plays to win. Every move the computer makes is shown slowly, outlined on the board and told in words. It always shows you what's allowed • Tap a piece and the squares it can reach light up. Tap one to move. • When a jump is compulsory, the pieces that can jump are ringed and the line under the board says why. • Multi-jumps are entered one landing at a time, so you choose the branch. • Undo is free and unlimited. No dragging, no timer, no score, no penalties. Easy on the eyes and hands Large squares and text that follow your font size, coordinates you can switch off, sound and vibration you can switch off, and TalkBack support that reads every square and announces the computer's moves. Your game is saved after every move, and your won / drawn / lost record is kept for each level. Afternoon Checkers works offline. It is free and supported by ads: a banner below the game, an occasional ad between games, and optional videos you can watch for extra hints (one hint per game is always free).
