Prepare for the YKI intermediate test in Finnish (Yleiset kielitutkinnot, keskitaso), the language test that applicants can use to show level 3 Finnish for citizenship. This app is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Opetushallitus (OPH), the University of Jyväskylä or the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri). Every task is original; explanations come in Finnish and English.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• 360 practice questions: 250 on seven everyday topics, 60 reading comprehension questions (tekstin ymmärtäminen) on 12 texts, and 50 listening questions (puheen ymmärtäminen) on 14 recordings.
• Listening with a transcript and adjustable speed for every recording. Listening audio in this app is AI-generated.
• Writing (kirjoittaminen): 15 tasks such as emails, messages and opinion pieces, each with two model answers and a self-assessment checklist.
• Speaking (puhuminen): 20 tasks for narrating, reacting to everyday situations and giving an opinion. Record yourself on your device and compare with a model answer.
• Topic notes: seven revision notes with core words and phrases, B1 grammar points (cases, the passive, the conditional and more) and the common mistakes to avoid, plus two notes on how the test works. The notes are in English with Finnish examples.
• 160 flashcards with spaced review.
• Exam fee, format and booking info built in, checked against official sources, with in-app outdated-info reporting.
A REALISTIC MOCK EXAM
The mock exam draws 12 reading and listening questions with a 30-minute timer. The real YKI test has no single pass mark: each subtest gets its own grade, and at the intermediate level the result is below 3, 3 or 4. The mock uses the app's own practice threshold of 7 out of 12.
THE EXAM TOPICS
Practice is grouped into seven everyday topics: daily life and relationships (arki), home and housing (asuminen), work and study (työ ja opiskelu), health (terveys), shops and services (asiointi), free time and travel (vapaa-aika) and society and the environment (yhteiskunta).
WHO THIS IS FOR
For a Finnish citizenship application, Migri accepts at least YKI intermediate grade 3 in each of two subtests, paired as speaking with writing, listening with writing, or reading with speaking. Since 8 January 2026 the 6-year path to a permanent residence permit also requires satisfactory Finnish or Swedish, the level Migri equates with YKI intermediate grade 3; this does not apply from age 65. Grade 3 corresponds to CEFR level B1.
