Point your camera at the night sky to identify stars and planets
StarLens helps you make sense of the night sky. Point your phone upward, align a bright star or planet in the crosshair, and tap Identify. StarLens uses your location, the current time, and the direction your camera is pointing to name what’s in view — including bright stars, major constellations, planets, and the Moon. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Open the live camera viewfinder and aim at the sky • See azimuth and altitude as you move your phone • Identify the object nearest your crosshair • Browse nearby bright catalog objects in your field of view • Learn a short fact about what you’ve found HOW IT WORKS StarLens does not need an internet connection to identify objects. It calculates the sky for your GPS position and matches that to where your device is aimed. For best results, use the app outdoors on a clear night, give the compass a moment to calibrate (move your phone in a gentle figure-eight), and hold the phone steady on a bright target. GREAT FOR • Casual stargazing and learning constellation names • Spotting bright planets when they’re visible • Finding familiar landmarks like Sirius, Vega, Orion’s Belt, or Polaris • Sharing the sky with kids, friends, or beginners TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS • Allow camera and location permissions • Stand away from strong magnetic interference (cars, metal railings) • Point above the horizon — StarLens is built for sky viewing • Bright, well-known objects are easiest to identify first PRIVACY Camera and location are used to identify what you’re looking at. StarLens is designed so identification happens on your device using your position, time, and phone orientation. Whether you’re new to astronomy or just curious about that bright light overhead, StarLens turns “What is that?” into an answer in seconds. Download StarLens and look up with confidence
