What's newin version 1.6
Thank you for every report since launch. This update makes the Tuner and Group Loops much better. 1. Tuner: steadier on low strings, typing and room noise no longer move the needle, and the note turns white the moment you are in tune. 2. Group Loops: every Loop keeps its own words. 3. Many bug fixes and polish across the app, including Peak Speed, the Beat Oscilloscope and landscape. I look forward to your feedback and feature ideas.
About this app
Tempo trainer & practice log
A cross between a StairMaster and Duolingo. I built it for myself, after years of wishing my metronome could ramp my tempo while I practiced and keep track of the work. Set a beginning tempo, a target and a duration, and it Ramps, while every minute you practice is logged privately on your phone. $4.99 once. No subscription, no ads. THE ACCELERATOR Choose a beginning tempo, a target, and how long you want to practice. It Ramps on its own, in steps, so you spend your time practicing rather than reaching for the dial. When it reaches the target it stays there and keeps going, and that extra time is counted separately. Ramp back down at the end, stop at the end, or count in first. Save and name your own Ramps. Interval Training runs three Ramps from a slow tempo to a fast one and back down, over a time you set. VARIATIONS The dial sets the tempo. Variations change what you hear on each beat. Pulse Division runs up to three lines at once, each with its own count. Swing goes from straight to shuffle in whole percents. Beat Placement moves the click off the downbeat so you supply it. Gaps mute beats or whole bars so you keep the pulse yourself. Pedal Tone puts a drone or a struck voice under the beat, and a Sequencer moves it through fifths, whole tones and more. Drum Loops follow the tempo. Save any combination as a Custom Variation, or let the Variations Roulette choose one for you. SPIN THE METRONOME Press it and let the Universe choose a tempo for you. Practicing only at the tempos you like is how gaps appear. Spin at a group rehearsal and everyone begins at the same new tempo. YOUR PRACTICE, VISUALIZED OVER TIME Every session is logged: when, how long, which tempos, and what you were working on. Name your own categories and each one has its own color. The calendar shows a month at a glance, one circle per day, filling clockwise. A quarter turn for every fifteen minutes, gold and a number after a full hour. A Streak counts the days in a row you practiced. Practice more than an hour every day from Sunday to Saturday and the whole week is marked in gold. Mark your Peak Speed each session, and the graph shows it rising. THE BEAT OSCILLOSCOPE AND THE TUNER The Beat Oscilloscope listens through the microphone and shows whether each note is on the beat, rushing or dragging, and by how much. The Tuner names the note and shows how far off you are, in Standard, New Standard Tuning or Chromatic, with concert A anywhere from 432 to 445. Both analyze the sound on the phone and keep none of it. THE METRONOME A rotary dial you drag with your thumb, from 40 to 232 BPM, or 10 to 240 with Extended Range. Fifteen sounds in five banks, or build a bank of your own. Set the beats to a bar and the downbeat has its own sound. Tap the tempo in. AUDIO THAT MIXES The click sounds over your music, a podcast, or a backing track without interrupting them. Silent mode does not mute it. It keeps going when you switch apps or the screen turns off, and so does the Accelerator. The beats are placed on the audio hardware's clock rather than on a timer, so nothing drifts while you are not looking. Optional haptics let you feel the beat through the phone. YOURS, AND PRIVATE No account, no login, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no subscription, no purchases inside the app. Your Practice History is on your phone. Back it up to a plain file you can read, through the Android share sheet, and restore it on a new phone. It works offline. The only things that leave your phone are the ones you turn on: the optional Leaderboard, and Find quotes online. Over a thousand quotes on practice and music appear while you practice, from Steve Ball, Guitar Craft, Robert Fripp and many more. Choose whose voices you hear, or add one of your own. Portrait or landscape. English and Spanish.
