Point your camera at the park, ballpark, or beach and see where the shade is right now — and where it will be over the next four hours. ShadeScout AR overlays live shadow boundaries on your camera feed using your GPS location and a local sun-position algorithm. An internet connection is needed the first time you open a new place, to load building and tree outlines from OpenStreetMap. WHAT SHADESCOUT AR DOES: - AR camera overlay shows current shadow boundaries at your venue - Time slider forecasts how shade moves over the next 4 hours (Premium) - Recommend tab ranks nearby positions by total shade-minutes (Premium) - Shade-arrival alerts notify you when your saved spot enters shade (Premium) — honest note: on Android 12 and later these alerts do not fire yet in the current build; a fix is in progress - Tree-tagging: in the AR camera view, measure and mark real trees. Your tags are saved on your device and sent to our servers; this version of the app does not show trees tagged by other people - AI "where to sit" explanation: planned — the current build has no screen for it yet, so nothing to tap FREE FOREVER: - Current shade view at any outdoor location - One saved spot - One AI "where to sit" answer per day (not yet in the app) PREMIUM ($2.99/month or $19.99/year) — honest note (18 September 2026): the current Android build cannot complete a Premium purchase because of a build error on our side; a fixed build is on its way. Please do not try to buy until this note is gone. - 4-hour future shade forecast with the time slider - Unlimited saved spots - Shade-arrival alerts (not yet working on Android 12 and later) - Spot Recommend ranker - Unlimited AI explanations + the detailed hour-by-hour plan (not yet in the app) HOW IT WORKS: ShadeScout calculates sun position locally using a standard solar algorithm — no API call, no subscription to a weather data service. Building and tree geometry comes from OpenStreetMap, supplemented by trees you tag yourself. Cloud-cover data comes from Open-Meteo, a free service. PRIVACY: ShadeScout uses anonymous sign-in only — no account, no email address, no name required. Location is used only while the app is open. It is sent to our servers and to the map and weather services named in the privacy policy, and a saved spot or tree tag stores its location.
