What's new
- The map's zoom buttons were too small to hit reliably, and the zoom out button was drawing as a blank grey circle. Both fixed. - Back from Explore or Medals now returns to your journey instead of closing the app. - The map card on the Journey screen says it is loading, rather than sitting blank while it fetches. - Settings and the Journey screen no longer clip or overlap at large system text sizes.
About this app
Walk the world's greatest trails with your everyday steps.
Walk the world's greatest trails, one real step at a time. Watch Walks turns the steps you already take into distance along a legendary walking route. Live your life as normal and your everyday walking carries you down the Inca Trail, the Appalachian Trail, the Camino de Santiago. No GPS, no route to follow, nothing to set up. This is the free companion app for Watch Walks. Pair it with your watch to see your whole journey on your phone: a living map of where you are on the trail, the story of every landmark you reach, and the badges you collect along the way. HOW IT WORKS Choose a trail, then just live your life. Your daily walking quietly carries you forward along the real route. Open the companion whenever you like to see how far you have come and what is waiting ahead. WHERE YOUR STEPS COME FROM From your watch. Watch Walks works with Garmin watches and with Wear OS watches, reading the steps your watch already counts. From your phone. No watch? Your phone counts your steps on its own and carries you along the trail just the same. From Health Connect. Already counting your steps somewhere else? If they go to Health Connect from a fitness tracker or another health app, Watch Walks reads your daily step count and those steps carry you along the trail too. Your step data stays on your phone. ON YOUR WEAR OS WATCH Watch Walks runs on the watch itself. Your trail, your distance and your next landmark are on your wrist, with or without the phone in your pocket. A tile, one swipe from your watch face. Add the Watch Walks tile and your progress is there without opening anything: the trail you are walking, how far you have come, the percent done, and the name of the landmark coming next, all inside a progress arc struck in that trail's own colour. Tap the tile to open the app. The watch app. The full ring, every landmark on the route, and the story waiting at each one you have reached. You can switch to a different trail from your wrist. Complications for any watch face. Watch Walks provides two complications, Trail progress and Trail name and colour, so how far along the trail you are can sit on a watch face you already use. Both draw as a progress ring, so they fit any complication slot that takes one. Press and hold your watch face, choose Customise, tap a slot and pick Watch Walks. The watch face. Your trail becomes the face itself: the route drawn across the glass, the part you have walked in that trail's own colour, and where you stand on it. The trail's name, how far you have come and the landmark coming next. Press and hold to choose how it is drawn, and to set what the two slots at the top hold - the date and your step count to begin with, or anything else your watch offers. WHAT YOU GET Your journey, mapped. Follow your progress along the real route of each trail, from the first step to the finish. A story for every landmark. Reach a milestone and a short postcard from that place is waiting for you, so each trail becomes a journey you remember instead of a number. Badges to collect. Every trail has its own badge to earn, and every landmark its own moment to mark. Miles or kilometres, your call. See your distance the way you like it. YOUR DATA Your steps stay on your phone. They are read, turned into a distance, and that is all. They are never sold, never shared, and never used for advertising. There are no ads anywhere in Watch Walks. If you want your journey to survive a lost phone, you can choose to sign in with Google and back up your trails, badges and progress. That is entirely optional. Watch Walks works fully without it, and your step data is never part of it. THE TRAILS 41 trails, from the Inca Trail in Peru to the Appalachian Trail in the United States, each a complete journey from start to finish. The Inca Trail is free to walk. The rest are one time purchases, yours to keep, with no subscription. Set it once. Then just live your life, and wake up somewhere legendary.
