Play backgammon vs a strong AI, offline. Doubling cube, dice log, no sign-up.
Play backgammon against the computer with dice you can check. Backgammon: Fair Dice Offline is classic backgammon with the doubling cube, the Crawford rule and matches to 1, 3, 5 or 7 points, on a big, clear board. No internet, Wi-Fi or sign-up is needed to play, and your opponent is always the computer, never a stranger online. FAIR DICE YOU CAN CHECK Every game's dice are fixed before the first roll. When a game starts, the app picks a secret key with your phone's secure random-number generator, and all the dice of that game come from this key. Before the first roll you see a short seal code. When the game ends, the key is revealed: tap "Check the dice" and the app confirms that the key matches the seal and that every roll came from the key. You can also check them outside the app with any HMAC-SHA256 tool. • The dice log lists every roll of the game for both players, with the moves played. • Your moves never change the dice, and neither does the difficulty. The computer never sees the next roll. • Dice statistics show how often each number, each of the 21 rolls and doubles came up, next to the range random dice fall in 99 times out of 100. A COMPUTER OPPONENT THAT PLAYS WELL Easy, Normal and Hard share one neural network, trained on 1.5 million games; in a race home, a bear-off database takes over. • Easy makes looser, human-like moves on purpose. • Normal plays the move the network rates highest. • Hard looks one roll ahead, weighing all 21 possible rolls, and plays to the match score in its moves and in its doubling decisions. The level changes how the computer plays, never the dice. DOUBLING CUBE, CRAWFORD RULE, MATCH PLAY Classic mode: standard international rules. Each player rolls one die to start, and the higher number moves first with both dice. Before you roll, you may offer a double: if your opponent takes, the game is worth twice as many points; if they decline, they lose the game at its current value. A gammon counts double and a backgammon triple, times the cube. The Crawford rule is always on: when a player first comes within one point of winning the match, the next game is played without the cube. Choose a 1, 3, 5 or 7-point match; a 1-point match is played without the cube. EASY ON THE EYES, EASY TO PLAY The board fills your screen in landscape, with large checkers and clear numbers. • Glowing checkers show what can move, and gold circles show where it can go. • Tap a checker, then a circle. Or tap a die, or double-tap to move by the bigger die. • Undo takes back a move until you tap Done. • Choose big or normal checkers, light or dark checkers and your home board side, and add point numbers and pip counts. • Two boards: Cedar, warm wood with a mother-of-pearl border, and Night. • Game speed, reduced motion, forced moves played for you, and automatic rolls when you can't double. HINTS AND RULES Stuck? A hint shows the whole suggested move with numbered arrows, or tells you whether to double, take or decline. Hints come from an AI that sees only the board and your dice, just like you. New to backgammon? Short tips guide your first game, and the full rules with diagrams are always in the menu. ALSO IN THE APP • Tavla rules too: no doubling cube, a gammon (mars) counts 2, no 3-point win, the winner of the last game starts. • An unfinished match is saved: close the app and pick up where you left off, with the same dice. • Practice with a dice code: the same code always gives the same dice. Practice matches are not ranked. • Statistics: matches and games won, gammons, backgammons, win streaks and your doubling cube record. • Weekly and all-time leaderboards of wins, under a nickname picked from a list. They need a connection; playing never does. • 13 languages: English, 한국어, Español, Português, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, 日本語, Русский, हिन्दी, Bahasa Indonesia, Türkçe, Ελληνικά. One game takes a few minutes; a 5-point match fits a coffee break. Set up the board, roll the dice and check them yourself.
