About this app
One card a story. The figure that matters, why it touches you, the source.
The news, read at a glance. One card carries the story. The figure that matters, why it touches you, and where it came from. Turn the card for the people involved, or for the story in full. Free. No account. THREE CARDS, ONE TURN APART The story card is what you read. Two more sit a swipe away for when a name or a full account is what you actually wanted. Story — the headline, the figure, why it matters to you People — who is involved, and where it lands Summary — the full account in plain language A SHAPE FOR EVERY STORY The mark on each cover is a claim about the shape of the story: something counted, something narrowing, a deadline closing in. Twelve shapes, five drawings each, so the same kind of story never looks the same twice. When there is no figure worth trusting, the cover stays plain. No invented chart. TWO WAYS TO READ For You — a slate ordered by what you actually read, built on your phone. All News — the direct wire feed, newest first, nothing reordered. Switch between them whenever you like. Old News keeps your last fifty stories if you want to go back. PERSONALIZATION THAT STAYS ON YOUR PHONE Brief notices which stories you read and which you scroll past, and orders your feed accordingly. All of it happens on your device. No account, no sign-in, no profile on a server. Nothing about your reading is uploaded. Delete the app and it is gone. Major news still reaches you regardless of what you usually read. TWELVE CATEGORIES Regional, Technology, Lifestyle, Business, General, Programming, Science, Entertainment, World, Sports, Food, and Health. Pick at least three. Each carries its own colour and cover texture through the whole card, so you know what you are looking at before you read a word. WHERE STORIES COME FROM Collected — Stories arrive from public news feeds, tagged by publisher. Brief holds no newsroom. Attributed — The publisher's name sits on the cover of every card, next to when it was filed. Traced — A figure reaches a card only if its exact phrase is still in the source article. WHAT BRIEF IS NOT Cards are assembled by software. No journalist writes or checks one before you see it. Automated reading can lose a qualifier or misplace a quote. Every card carries its source. Check the original when the detail matters. Report a correction from the menu if you find something wrong. Free while in beta. Pick your categories and see how much of the day you can cover before your tea goes cold.
