About this app
Record the walk, log every find, come back to your mushroom spots
Read full description
You found a good spot last September. Could you walk back to it today? Mushroom Map from Leshy records the walk while you walk it: your track, every find with its coordinates and the time it was made, and the landmarks worth remembering. By next season the map already knows where to go. WHILE YOU WALK Press Start and put the phone back in your pocket — the track, the distance and the time are kept for you. Found something? Tap its tile: the find is saved on the spot, with species, place and time. Hold the tile to enter several at once, press "−" if you tapped by mistake. The walk in progress also sits in the notification shade with the same "+" and "−" buttons, so a find can be logged without unlocking the phone. Every find is written to storage the moment you tap it. A flat battery or an app closed in the middle of the forest costs you nothing that was already recorded. LANDMARKS AND THE WAY BACK A spring, a windfall, the edge of a bog, the car — mark the place where you are standing and give it a name, a description and a photo. Hold its marker on the map afterwards and the app shows the direction and the distance to it while you walk. AFTERWARDS The archive keeps every walk on its own: the route, the finds by species, the marked places, the statistics and your own notes. The combined map puts all of your seasons on one canvas — where the mushrooms were and how many. The filters narrow it down to a season or a range of dates you choose, and the numbers, the per-species tiles and the chart below them are counted for exactly that. Any walk can be shared as a picture, and you choose what goes into it: the name, the statistics, your notes, the chart of finds, the map. The app itself sends nothing anywhere: neither the developer nor other pickers find out where your spots are unless you send them your walks yourself. THE MUSHROOMS More than 400 species in the catalogue, gathered into 55 collections by country, so the row of tiles holds what actually grows where you go. Anything the catalogue does not have you add yourself — a name, a colour and a picture from the camera, the gallery or the catalogue. NO SIGNAL, NO PROBLEM There is no reception in the forest, and the app is built for that. Download the map of the area you are heading to in advance, and the walk is recorded on a real map instead of an empty background. WHAT THE APP DOES NOT DO It does not tell you whether a mushroom is edible. It is not an identification tool: the pictures in it are illustrations, not a field guide, and nothing in the app may be used to decide what goes into the basket. Ask people who know the mushrooms of your area, and take anything unfamiliar to a specialist. PRIVACY No accounts, no sign-up. Your walks, marks and photos stay on your device. There is no advertising, no analytics and no reporting back to the developer — the only request that leaves the app is the one for map tiles, so that there is something to draw the map with. And everything you record can be exported to a file and carried over to another phone. Interface in 42 languages, mushroom names in 52. Map data by OpenStreetMap, tiles by OpenFreeMap.
