What's this Place? answers a simple question: where am I, and what is this place? Open the app and it shows your exact position, then tells you the city, state and county you're standing in - and pulls up the Wikipedia article for it. WHAT YOU SEE - Your position in degrees, minutes and seconds, the way a chart or map reference is written - Your current speed in miles per hour - Your altitude in feet above sea level - The city, state and county you're currently in MAP A satellite map centred on you, with live traffic. Tap the locate button any time to re-centre. WIKIPEDIA When you arrive somewhere new, the app looks up that place on Wikipedia and opens the article - so you can read about the town you've just driven into without searching for it. Browse it in the app, or open it in your browser. NOTIFICATIONS Cross into a new city or county and the app lets you know where you've arrived. GOOD FOR - Road trips, when you want to know what that town you just passed through actually is - Hiking, boating and flying, where a precise coordinate readout is useful - Anyone who has ever looked out of a window and wondered where they are LOCATION AND PRIVACY The app uses your device's location while it is open, to show your position and look up the place you're in. Your location is used on the device and to request the matching Wikipedia page - it is not sold. See the privacy policy linked on this listing for details. The app is free and supported by ads.
