An application for creating and viewing family trees
Family Tree — Android An application for creating and viewing family trees. Developed for Android Studio Hedgehog (2023.1.1). ## Opportunities - **Multiple trees** — create, rename (long press), delete. - **Persons** — name, surname, gender, date/place of birth, deceased, date/place of death, notes. - **Relationships** — father, mother, and any number of spouses. Cycle protection: own descendant cannot be chosen as parent. - **Graphic Tree** — automatic generation sorting; drag, two-finger zoom, double-tap to zoom, "Fit to screen." Blue/pink/gray boxes by gender, red line between spouses. - **Quick Add** — tap on a person in the tree → add child / father / mother / spouse. In "Add Child", the second parent is automatically filled in if the person has one spouse. - **Search list** by name or place of birth. - **Relationship Calculator** — father, grandfather, brother, half-brother, uncle, nephew, first cousin, spouse and common case (cousins of degree N, difference M generations), with common ancestor. - **Statistics** — number of persons, men/women, living/deceased, generations, earliest year of birth, average life expectancy. - **Export to PDF** (menu ⋮ → „Export to PDF“) with three formats: - *One large page* — the page is the size of the tree, full details (for screen and zoom); - *One A4 page* — the entire tree, reduced to one sheet; - *A4 sheets for printing* — legible scale (80%), divided into sheets with a dotted cropping frame and the inscription "row/column"; blank sheets are skipped. Optionally, a **list of persons** (A4, alphabetically) with dates, places, parents, spouses, children and notes is added. The PDF is **saved** via the system "Save As" dialog or **shared**. The text is vector (sharp at any magnification and searchable), Cyrillic is supported. The PDF is always in light colors, even with a dark theme. The last choice is remembered. - **Base backup** (main screen, menu ⋮): - *Export database* — all trees in one file `FamilyTree_backup_YYYY-MM-DD.db`, saved wherever you choose (phone, SD card, Google Drive…); - *Export a tree* — long press on the tree → "Export this tree" (convenient for sending to a relative); - *Import based on* — shows what the file contains (trees, faces, date) and asks: **Add** (the trees are added to the existing ones; if the name is the same, it becomes "Name (2)") or **Replace all** (with a second confirmation). The file is a regular SQLite database (it can also be opened with DB Browser for SQLite). The import does not overwrite the database file, but copies the rows in one transaction with new numbers. If the file is foreign or damaged, nothing changes. A copy from a newer version of the application is rejected with a clear message. - **Export to GEDCOM 5.5.1** (UTF-8) via sharing — opens from MyHeritage, Gramps, Ancestry, FamilySearch, etc. - **5 languages in the app** (English by default, Bulgarian, Deutsch, Français, Español), regardless of the device language. - Dark theme, SQLite base, no internet and no permissions. ## Dates Free text. `1932-05-17`, `17.05.1932`, `1932-05` and `1932` are recognized; during GEDCOM export they are converted to standard format (`17 MAY 1932`), and other text (e.g. "around 1890") is saved as a phrase.
