An AI class app with the Pio robot
This is a classroom app designed for elementary students to learn by seeing and touching AI. Students directly train the AI using the tablet's camera and microphone, and the robot, Pio, moves according to the results. Instead of just listening to explanations, the child experiences the entire process of collecting data, training, and verifying the results firsthand. ■ What can you do? • Hazardous Material/Safety Material Image Classification AI Train the AI by taking pictures of objects in the classroom and classifying them as "hazardous materials" or "safety materials." Once training is complete, point the camera at new objects to check which category the AI classifies and how confident it is, using a bar graph. Children can directly compare how the results differ when there are few photos versus many. • Traffic Safety Gesture Recognition AI Recognizes hand signals using AI that recognizes hand shapes. It recognizes five gestures—stop, forward, backward, left, and right—and the robot moves accordingly. If a hand is not visible, the robot stops for safety. • AI Safe Entry System Registers students' faces and verifies that the person standing in front of the camera is a registered student. If the student is registered, the robot moves forward accompanied by a screen showing the door opening; if there is no registration information, a warning is displayed. The date, time, name, affiliation, and result are recorded as an entry/exit record. • Voice Command Recognition AI If you say "Forward," "Backward," "Left," "Right," or "Fire," the robot moves accordingly. It recognizes similar words together so that it can understand even if children's pronunciation varies slightly. If you say "Fire," the robot sounds a siren and blinks its eyes red. • Control You can directly control movement (forward, backward, left, right), eye color, and sound using buttons. This is suitable for the first time meeting the robot. ■ Designed with these points in mind • Captured photos, trained AI, registered faces, and entry/exit records are all used only within the tablet and are not sent outside. • When you close the app, photos, training results, registration information, and entry/exit records are all erased. The next lesson always starts with a clean state. • No membership registration or login is required. • On-screen text and buttons support Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified/Traditional). ■ Prerequisites • 1 "Pio" Robot — This app connects to the robot via Bluetooth. It cannot be used without a robot. • A tablet running Android 7.0 or higher that supports Bluetooth LE (landscape mode recommended). • Voice commands use Android voice recognition, so an internet connection is required. The remaining functions operate without an internet connection. ■ Permissions Required • Camera — Used for image classification, motion recognition, and face registration/verification. • Microphone — Used to understand voice commands. • Nearby Devices (Bluetooth) — Used to find and connect to the Pio Robot.
