The 6 basics, covering the biggest word-order differences from Mandarin, are free. • New Notebook: tap the star on any word, sentence, dialogue line or grammar example to save it and review it in one place. • Hear yourself: after practicing, play back your own recording and compare it with the model. • Tone chart: see how each tone should rise or fall. With the full version, the model recording and your own pitch are drawn on the same chart, so you can see which syllable didn't rise or fall enough.
HK Cantonese teaches Hong Kong Cantonese from zero. Not a vocabulary list to memorise — it follows how language is actually learned: sounds first, then words and patterns, then real conversations, then speaking out loud. 【Start with Jyutping】 20 initials, 58 finals and 6 tones, each with example words and Cantonese audio. Tones are the hardest part of Cantonese, so we draw them on a musical staff — high or low, rising or falling, you see it instead of guessing. 【Record yourself, find out what's off】 Read a phrase out loud and the app compares it character by character, showing which ones landed and which didn't. It goes beyond individual sounds: it also tracks the pitch contour of your voice to check whether the six tones are actually rising and falling the way they should. Everyone's vocal range differs, so tone calibration has you read six example words once — after that, scoring uses your own voice as the baseline instead of penalising you for a naturally low or high pitch. Afterwards, play back your own recording to compare it with the model, and check the tone chart to see how each tone should move. The full version also draws the model recording and your own pitch on the same chart, so you can see exactly which syllable didn't rise or fall enough. 【820 words, 674 example sentences】 37 everyday topics: greetings, transport, asking directions, dim sum, Hong Kong sweet soups, street food, shopping, seeing a doctor, typhoon warnings — the things people actually say in Hong Kong, not textbook lines. 【Grammar that explains how Cantonese fits together】 18 key grammar points (the 6 basics are free) — 咗, 緊, 過, comparisons with 過, the word order of 俾 ("give the book me"), 食唔晒 — each with its pattern, a plain explanation and 5 example sentences. Where the word order differs from Mandarin, it tells you. 【30 dialogue units】 First meeting, taxi to the airport, ordering at a cha chaan teng, haggling, seeing a doctor. 566 lines of dialogue, each playable and repeatable line by line. 【Spaced repetition, so it doesn't fade】 What you study and practise gets scheduled automatically. Get it right and it comes back later — 1 day, 2 days, 4 days, a week, two weeks, a month. Get it wrong and it returns tomorrow. Open the app and you see exactly what's due today. 【Practice without speaking】 On the bus, late at night, or with people around — speaking out loud isn't always an option. The review tab has multiple choice: listen and pick the word, see the word and pick the right reading, or read the meaning and pick the word. Questions are generated from what you've studied, and every answer feeds back into the schedule above. 【Notebook】 Tap the star on any word, sentence, dialogue line or grammar example to save it, then review everything you've collected in one place. 【AI review】 The AI quizzes you based on your progress and weak pronunciations, in Cantonese, one question at a time. 【Five interface languages】 Translations in English, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese — or choose "-" to hide them entirely and keep everything in Cantonese for immersion. Switch any time in Settings. 【One-time purchase】 All beginner content is free. A single purchase unlocks every intermediate unit and removes all ads — no subscription, no expiry, future updates included.
