Korean Cards is a complete course and flashcard app for learning Korean. Study words with spaced repetition, read graded texts, work through grammar lessons and take practice tests. Everything is in the app, and it works offline. SIX LEVELS AND A DICTIONARY • 16,623 words in six levels, from Beginner 1 to Advanced 2. They come from the learner dictionary of the National Institute of the Korean Language (국립국어원). • About 33,000 more dictionary words for lookup, mostly idioms, proverbs and less common words. Search from the home screen. • Three example sentences for nearly every level word, with romanization and English. Human-written ones from the Tatoeba Project come first. • A memory aid and a usage note for every level word. • Korean text-to-speech with Apple's on-device voice. STUDY • FSRS spaced repetition schedules each card when you are about to forget it. • Five card directions, including an audio prompt. Sessions: standard, due today, hardest or random. • Multiple-choice mode, if you prefer to pick the answer. • Daily goal, streaks, a review forecast, a calendar heatmap and a weekly summary. A home-screen widget shows your progress. GRAMMAR • 183 lessons across the six levels, with 936 practice drills in which you build sentences from tiles. Each level ends with a review exam. READING • 115 graded readings across the six levels. Every word is tappable: see the meaning and add it to your deck. • Three public-domain short stories: 운수 좋은 날 by 현진건, 봄봄 by 김유정 and 메밀꽃 필 무렵 by 이효석. PRACTICE TESTS • 20 TOPIK-style practice tests, 1,700 questions in all: 10 for the beginner format (70 questions each) and 10 for the intermediate and advanced format (100 questions each), with listening and reading sections. • They are original tests written for this app in the TOPIK format. They are not official TOPIK papers and are not affiliated with NIIED. MORE PRACTICE • Pronunciation: 5,074 words where spelling and sound differ. Learn the sound-change rules, such as tensification, liaison and nasalization. • Dictation: listen and write the word. • Sentence cloze: fill the blank in a real sentence. • Idioms and proverbs: 1,000 write-ups with the literal picture, the meaning, the origin and examples. • Easily confused words: 345 groups, with fill-in-the-blank exercises for 791 word pairs. • Glossary: 1,620 terms in 15 fields, such as economy, law, technology and medicine. • Alphabet: learn the 40 Hangul letters. SCAN Take a photo of Korean text or pick one from your library. The app recognizes the text on your device with Apple's Vision framework. Tap a word to look it up and add it to your deck. HANGULHOVER EXCHANGE HangulHover is a hover dictionary for the Mac by the same developer. Words you save there can move to this app, and back, through a file that you send yourself, for example by AirDrop. It carries your words, review schedule, notes and labels. CSV word lists can be imported too. PRIVATE AND OFFLINE Korean Cards has no account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. It makes no network requests. All your study data stays on your device. The camera and the photo library are used only for Scan, and notifications only if you turn on the daily reminder. One purchase, no subscription.
