Can you map a causal mutation before revealing the EMS variants? Tony Crayfish Worm Genetics turns that challenge into a hands-on C. elegans laboratory. Choose a recessive Ted mutant, whose tail defect is visible only in hermaphrodites, or a Pha mutant with a pharynx abnormality visible in both sexes. Start from a reproducible, seeded founder and follow individual worms through selfing, wild-type outcrosses and mapping crosses. On Lab Plates, see each worm's sex and visible phenotypes. Select a worm and inspect its chromosome maps in Lab Workspace. Create named strains and return to their worms for later crosses. Use a two-factor cross to test linkage with a known marker. In three-factor mapping, compare a testcross with a cautious line-plate approach. Place your own proposed causal position on a paired F1 chromosome map, submit an answer, and then reveal the explanation. Your proposed tick stays until you clear it. Reveal chromosome ancestry and EMS variants when you are ready to check your reasoning. The built-in introduction and guide explain the workflows. Experiments save automatically on this device. No account or internet connection is required for the simulation. This is an educational model; its genetic maps and sample outcomes illustrate mapping concepts rather than represent measurements from a real strain.
