FreeUp finds the photos and videos taking up the most space and makes smaller copies, so you get your storage back without losing your memories. Everything runs on your device: no internet access, no account, no tracking. Your media never leaves your phone. 📉 How it works 1. See where your space goes: a storage overview shows how much your photos and videos use and how much you could recover 2. Pick what to shrink: browse your biggest files first, filter by size, sort by size or date, and swipe to select many at once 3. Choose a quality: Low, Medium (recommended) or High. Preview a real before-and-after of your own photo and see the estimated saving 4. Let it run: compression continues in the background, even with the screen off. Cancel any time 5. Decide about the originals: keep both, or delete the originals to free space right away 🛡️ Built to protect your photos • Compressed copies are saved separately in Pictures/FreeUp and Movies/FreeUp • Originals are never deleted automatically. Android always asks you to confirm first • Photos keep their date, camera details and location • Images with transparency are skipped, so nothing gets flattened • Files that can't be made smaller are left alone and reported 💾 Low on storage? If there isn't room for both originals and copies, FreeUp works in batches. After each batch, Android asks you to delete the originals just compressed, freeing space for the next one. If you decline, the run stops safely. ⚙️ Details • Photos: JPEG and PNG compressed to smaller JPEG files • Videos: re-encoded to H.264 MP4 at a lower resolution and bitrate • HEIC and WebP photos are skipped, as they are already efficient • Up to 10 GB of originals per run • Light and dark theme • Requires Android 11 or newer 🔑 Permissions FreeUp asks for access to your photos and videos (to find and compress them), photo location (so copies keep their GPS data) and notifications (to show progress).
