Hard letters and contracts in plain words, side by side. Glossary, read aloud
Letters from city hall or school, hospital instructions, contracts, insurance papers. Plain Language Reader rewrites hard texts like these into short sentences and plain words. Compare each sentence with the original, tap hard terms for an explanation, or listen with read aloud. All of it happens on your device. ▶ MAIN FEATURES ■ Short sentences, plain words Long sentences are split at natural break points, never inside parentheses. Wordy phrases and hard words become everyday ones, and double negatives are untangled. In Japanese texts, stiff honorifics become plain requests and era years get the Western year. ■ Every change marked, undo any one Tap a colored change to see the original words and why it changed, and undo just that one if you like. Where the rules can't be sure, the original wording is kept. ■ Side by side with the original See each original sentence next to its plain version to check the exact wording of procedures and contracts. You also get a readability score before and after, and a check that no dates or amounts went missing. ■ 532 Japanese and 513 English terms explained Tap a dotted word such as "deductible" or "power of attorney" for a short explanation. Add explanations into the text, browse the Terms tab by field, or look a word up in your dictionary app. ■ Furigana, word spacing and read aloud For Japanese texts, add furigana and word spacing. Read aloud highlights each sentence as it is read. ■ Presets for who is reading Child, Language learner, Older reader or Everyone sets strength, furigana, word spacing and text size at once. Then fine-tune: three strengths, each kind of change on or off, line spacing, paper color, font. ▶ EXAMPLES "prior to" → "before", "in order to" → "to", "utilize" → "use", "in the event that" → "if", "commence" → "start", "provide assistance" → "help". ▶ HOW TO USE 1. Select text in any app and tap "Read in plain words", or use the share menu, the Quick Settings tile for copied text, pasting or a .txt file. 2. Tap colored parts for the original words, and dotted words for meanings. 3. Switch to "Side by side" to compare. Save as many texts as you like, with favorites, search, sharing and automatic backup. ▶ SUPPORTED TEXTS Rewriting works for Japanese and English texts. The language is detected automatically and can be changed per text. Texts in other languages get sentence splitting, read aloud and display settings. One text can be up to 60,000 characters. The app comes in 40 languages. ▶ PREMIUM (ONE-TIME PURCHASE) • Read from photos you take, choose or share. Text recognition runs on your device too (its component downloads the first time). • Open PDFs (the first 40 pages of long PDFs). • Writing check: marks long sentences, hard words, stiff wording, double negatives, passive voice and vague wording, with plain alternatives. • To-do card: dates, money, things to bring, contacts and what to do. • My dictionary: your own replacements and explanations. • Focus mode, printing and saving as PDF. • Color themes and app lock. Premium is a single one-time purchase, not a subscription. The core features (rewriting, side by side, term explanations, furigana, read aloud and saving) work without buying, with no limits on uses, text length or saved texts. Features you can use now will never be moved to Premium later. ▶ PRIVACY Rewriting uses only rules and dictionaries on your device. No AI and no server: your text is never sent anywhere, it works offline and there is no usage limit. No account needed. ▶ WHO IT IS FOR • Anyone who finds official letters or hospital instructions hard to read • Language learners and the people who help them • Families explaining notices to older relatives • Anyone writing notices that everyone should understand ▶ PLEASE NOTE Rewriting is automatic, done by rules on your device. For important procedures, contracts and medicine, always check the original text.
