· On-device AI summaries: documents are summarized on the phone, never uploaded to a server. · The AI model is downloaded once and works offline from then on. · Clear privacy notice on the summary screen and in Settings.
PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. On-device AI. Nothing leaves your phone.
DocReader opens your documents and summarizes them with an artificial intelligence that runs INSIDE your phone. There is no account, no cloud and no copy of your files on any server: what you read and what the AI writes stays on your device. THE AI RUNS ON YOUR PHONE, NOT ON A SERVER The summary is written by a language model (Gemma, from Google DeepMind) running on the phone itself, using the LiteRT-LM engine. The document, its text and the summary are never sent anywhere: there are no servers to talk to because there are none. The model is downloaded once (557 MB) and after that summarizing works offline. YOUR DOCUMENTS DO NOT LEAVE THE PHONE · No sign-up, no account: nothing to create and nothing to remember. · Nothing uploaded: neither the file, nor its text, nor the summary leaves the device. · No storage permission: you pick each document with the system picker, and the app only sees the file you hand it. · No trackers, no analytics: the app ships no usage tracking of any kind. · Working copies live in the app's private storage and are gone when you uninstall it. SUMMARIZE ANY DOCUMENT Open a contract, a report, some notes or a spreadsheet and ask for the summary. The AI reads the document's text and writes a summary you can copy or send to another app. While it works you can see what it is doing (reading, loading the model, writing) and stop it with one tap whenever you want. EVERYTHING IT READS · PDF · Word: DOCX, DOCM and DOC (97-2003) · Excel: XLSX, XLSM and XLS (97-2003) · PowerPoint: PPTX · CSV and TSV, with separator detection · Text: TXT, MD, JSON and XML · Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WEBP and HEIC AND ALSO · Camera scanner: turn paper into a multi-page PDF, with cropping and flash. · Search inside the document, with highlights and jump between matches, ignoring case and accents. · Zoom, pan and fullscreen in the viewer. · Print over WiFi (or save as PDF) straight from the document. · Screen stays on while you read. · Light and dark themes, plus a dark reading mode that flips the paper without wrecking images. · English and Spanish interface, no connection needed. WHAT THIS VERSION DOES NOT DO (SAID PLAINLY) · No OCR: photos and scans can be viewed, but no text can be pulled out of them, so they cannot be summarized. Summarizing needs a document with real text in it. · The summary can be wrong: it is written by an AI, so check the important bits against the original. · A long summary is cut short when the model runs out of room. ABOUT THIS VERSION DocReader is free and funded by ads: one discreet banner at the bottom and a fullscreen video every so often, which appears when you open documents or scan. Each summary is unlocked by watching a short video as well. The ads are served by Google AdMob, the only part of the app that collects data (device identifiers, for advertising). Before showing anything, Google asks for your consent with its own message, and you can change it in Settings at any time; if you decline, the ads stay but become limited, and you lose no app feature. Your document and its summary still never leave the phone. If you would rather have no ads at all, there is DocReader Pro. · Android 8.0 or later. · Summarizing needs a 557 MB model, downloaded once (over WiFi, if you like) and stored on the phone. On phones with 8 GB of RAM or more a larger model (about 2 GB) is offered as well, which handles longer documents better. Try DocReader with one of your own documents: you do not have to take our word for it, just look at what the app asks for (camera and network) and what it does not ask for (no account, no contacts, no storage).
