Esbat is a tarot and moon calendar app for witches, Wiccans and pagans: a daily tarot card, moon phases, a sigil maker and a private Book of Shadows, all offline.
TAROT CARD OF THE DAY
Each morning a tarot card is drawn for you and waits face down until you turn it over. The deck is the 1910 Waite-Smith tarot with Pamela Colman Smith's original pictures: all 78 cards, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana of Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. The tarot card meanings, upright and reversed, come from A. E. Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot, with his description of each picture and one plain line to remember it by. Turn a card to see it reversed, write today's card in your journal, or share it as a picture. A quiet morning note can tell you your card is ready.
MOON PHASE CALENDAR
What phase is the moon tonight? Esbat shows the moon phase, how much of it is lit, the moon's age and tonight's moon sign in the zodiac, worked out on your phone from astronomical tables, so the lunar calendar works with no signal. Every full moon has its old name: Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, Worm Moon, Pink Moon, Flower Moon, Strawberry Moon, Buck Moon, Sturgeon Moon, Harvest Moon, Hunter's Moon, Beaver Moon and Cold Moon. See the coming new moons and full moons, with Blue Moons and Black Moons marked, and the next solar and lunar eclipses. Reminders on full moon and new moon nights are there if you want them.
WHEEL OF THE YEAR
All eight sabbats, the next one counted down: Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh and Mabon. Switch to the Southern Hemisphere wheel if you live below the equator.
SIGIL MAKER
Type an intention in plain words and Esbat makes a sigil from it by the classic letter method of chaos magic: vowels released, repeated letters dissolved, the rest drawn as one line on the witch's wheel. It is a sigil generator that repeats, so the same words always draw the same mark. Keep its words secret, or share it as a picture.
BOOK OF SHADOWS
A private grimoire and witch journal that stays on your phone. Write spells, rituals, dreams and intentions, seal each page under tonight's moon, and keep your sigils, cards and saved symbols beside them. Search your pages, and export the whole book as text whenever you like.
SYMBOLS AND RUNES
46 historical symbols, each with its meaning and its earliest source: alchemy symbols, planetary and elemental signs, astrology symbols, and the 24 Elder Futhark runes with what the Old English Rune Poem says of each.
PLANETARY MAGIC
The seven classical planets, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon, each with its magic square or kamea, its day of the week, its angel, and the metals, stones, herbs and creatures that Agrippa and Barrett set under it. Search a herb or a stone, like rosemary or sapphire, to find its planet.
ARS GOETIA
The 72 spirits of the Ars Goetia, from the Lesser Key of Solomon in its 1904 edition: each spirit's rank, legions, appearance and office, with a line in the book's own words. Offered as a record for study.
