Dye calculator and split charts for ice dyeing and tie dye on cotton fabric.
Meltline is a dye calculator and planner for ice dyeing and tie dye with fiber reactive powder dyes. It shows how each dye splits as the ice melts, works out the grams for your fabric, and keeps the recipe so you can dye the same piece again. Mixed colors break apart under ice. A black can melt into teal, purple and olive, and where two dyes meet, their splits can cancel each other into brown. The library charts the split of every catalogued dye and says how the split is known: stated by the manufacturer, observed on a swatch, or not yet measured. Browse by hue on the color wheel, or search by name. The calculator takes the dry weight of the piece, the fiber, the depth of shade and the ice ratio, and gives you the powder in grams and teaspoons for each dye in the mix. Switch between grams, ounces and pounds and the amounts stay put. A fiber that will not take fiber reactive dye gets the reason instead of a number. Plan the fold before you pour. Choose scrunch, spiral, accordion, bullseye, mandala, itajime clamp or pole wrap, place a dye on each zone of the folded bundle, and Meltline flags any two neighbors whose splits will go muddy. While the batch sits, the Muck screen counts down the cure time and can remind you when it is done. Enter the room temperature, or check the forecast low for your area, and it warns you when it is too cold for the dye to react. Every batch goes into a log: fabric, fold, soda method, each dye with its parts and grams, wash out notes, and before and after photos. A checklist walks you from scouring and the soda soak through the ice to the cold rinse. Turn a finished batch into a recipe card image to share, or make it again at a new weight with the same proportions. Starter recipes give you somewhere to begin, and an unlabeled jar from the back of the shelf can go in as a custom dye. No account and no ads. Your batches and photos stay on your phone.
