Light barometric hiking altimeter: see your altitude and how far you've climbed
On a mountain, you really only want to know two things: how high you are, and how far you've climbed. PeakAlt is a hiking altimeter that measures altitude with your phone's barometer. No login, no maps, no servers. Open the app and your altitude is right there. ■ Altitude at a glance • Current altitude: your elevation above sea level, measured by the barometer and shown in large numbers • Max altitude: the highest point you've reached today • Elevation gain and loss: every meter you've climbed and descended, added up • Vertical speed: how many meters per hour you're climbing, based on the last minute • Current air pressure (hPa) is shown as well ■ Why a barometer makes the difference GPS altitude can easily jump up and down by tens of meters depending on satellite signals. PeakAlt calculates altitude from changes in air pressure and smooths the sensor readings, so the numbers stay steady while you stand still. The small wobbles from each step aren't added to your elevation gain, so it only counts the height you actually climbed. ■ Hike recording • Start recording with a single tap, and pause or resume anytime • Recording continues in the background with the screen off, and the notification shows your current altitude, elevation gain and elapsed time • While recording, an altitude profile graph is drawn in real time • When you finish, save the hike with a mountain name and a note • You can record with the barometer alone, even without location access ■ Look back on past hikes • Each hike is summarized on a card with date, duration, max altitude and elevation gain • See your total hikes, total elevation gain and highest altitude ever in one place • Tap the altitude graph to check the altitude and time at any point • No limit on the number of hikes you can save ■ Easy altitude calibration Air pressure changes with the weather, so calibrating once before you set off makes readings more accurate. • GPS auto-calibration: collects accurate GPS altitude readings under open sky and averages them • Known altitude: enter the elevation shown on a summit marker or trail sign • Sea-level pressure: enter the sea-level pressure from a weather service If it's been a while since your last calibration, PeakAlt will remind you to recalibrate. ■ Your way • Choose meters (m) or feet (ft) • Adjust climb sensitivity (2 m, 3 m, 5 m) • Keep the screen on while recording • Light, dark or system theme • Get a daily hiking reminder at the time you choose ■ Pro (one-time purchase) A single purchase removes all ads and lets you export your hikes as CSV files. It's a one-time payment, not a subscription. ■ Privacy Your hikes are stored only on your phone. No account is needed, and your records are never sent to an external server. ■ Good to know • On devices without a barometer, altitude is measured by GPS, which may be less accurate • Air pressure is affected by changes in the weather, so we recommend recalibrating on long hikes or when the weather changes • PeakAlt is a reference tool to support your hikes. On the trail, always check trail signs and conditions on site as well From a light walk around the neighborhood to weekend hikes and trail running, keep a record of every climb with PeakAlt.
