This app usually works fine, but there are some exceptions and bugs. Sometimes I want to look at a map that doesn't include the current location, but the app changes back to a map that has the current location. I removed location permission to try to avoid this auto-select of map, but that results in app crashing. Maybe location based select of map should be possible to turn off in app preferences.

When opened, Custom Maps automatically selects the map that covers the current area. If there are multiple such maps, it tries to select the one with the highest zoom level. But you should be able to view any map by selecting "Select map" from the 3-dot menu in the upper right corner, and then the map you want from the list.

Great in 2022 great in 2026, just does what's on the box. the battery life is good, and the tie point matching works well
I uploaded the map from the brochure onto my phone and pinned it to the world map. It is brilliant!

This is a great little app to create a map from any image. I've used it for a few years now. Thank you Marko. All the bad reviews are from people that don't understand what the app does - they didn't read how to use it. The process is very simple. Of course the app needs your location. Hopefully this app becomes more popular and Marko increases functionality e.g., loading already georeferenced PDF and Geotiffs. Avenza was great but now enshitified. Custom Maps provides a decent workaround.
very useful
I used this app for some trips to Russia, worked very well. But today I have a phone without Google Play Services and then Google Maps doesn't work, so I can not tie a point on my imported map to a location on Google Maps. Pity, can't use this app anymore. A real pity. Wish it would work with Open Street Maps. Still 5 stars for an excellent app.
