know about this app from the book. First impression is that there're a lot of bugs, perhaps due to overuse of AI for content and coding? Just tested the word learning function via flash card and none of the images showed up... Concept is great but needs some refinement, or maybe I'm dumb

We're sorry the images didn’t appear. The app needs a stable internet connection to load them, so please check your connection and try again. If they still don’t show, contact our helpdesk and we’ll be happy to help troubleshoot.
They charged me for a year of service after I directly requested to cancel a week before it renewed.

As per our Terms of Service, subscription management is the responsibility of the user, and all subscriptions need to be cancelled before the renewal date to prevent the next charge. Our self-service portal is available at any time, so users can cancel directly without waiting for a reply from our team. We can see that you've now managed to cancel.
wouldn't recommend for japanese for beginners. as an example of an issue, if you use flashcards for words, you'll initially be shown the image, kanji, kana, and translation. when tested later, you'll see the picture and need to select the correct kanji. this complicates things a lot, as the writing system in japanese is a huge barrier, and putting that kanji barrier in front of recognition of simple words slows things down a lot. better off just using anki.

Hi Phil, thank you for your review. The app is designed to teach Japanese as it is used in real life, so kanji and hiragana are introduced from the beginning. You can also turn on furigana in the Language Settings for reading support. We recommend learners have a basic familiarity with kanji to get the most out of the Japanese course in the app.
i cannot add new words to my practice list. also, you can't reverse translate from your target language to your original language to speak 🙏

The speech analysis is BS. I accidentally said a completely wrong word and it gave me a green score for my pronunciation. I thought that was strange, so I started saying random words. IT STILL gave me "feedback" that sounded realistic, like about the way I pronounced a certain vowel or the pitch in the syllable. The pronunciation feedback was the key selling point for me and now I paid a whole year subscription for a scam!

I bought the premium version of this app after reading his book. This app is a disaster. No value for money.

Automatically auto renews, and sends no reminder emails. So a year later end up paying 100 dollars for an app I don't use.

We strive to clearly communicate the auto-renewing nature of our subscriptions by noting it on our website, app store listings, checkout pages, and in our Terms of Service. We do also send renewal reminder emails and have confirmed that one was sent to you 10 days before the renewal by means of a screenshot. Please see your ticket for reference.
learned Japanese with this app a few years ago - it was glitchy, but at all very nice and useful. Everything in order, step by step learning, starting with pronouncination. Now started French: the app filled with AI slop and algorithm of learning the language became ... awful. like any other app with a bunch of adds, useless sections, no pronouncination lessons in the beginning. really wish they allowed users to reverse the 'new releases'

Thank you for your feedback. We'd like to clarify that while we have added some AI-based tools, the core Fluent Forever method is still the same. The learning path and algorithm have not changed, pronunciation training is still available (in the dedicated tile), and there are no ads in the app. You may instead be seeing Premium upgrade prompts.
