Offline Markdown editor: read, edit and save MD files with draft recovery.
Open a .md file, read the formatted document and switch to editing when you need to make a change. Markdown Reader MD is an offline Markdown editor that saves back to your original file and keeps local drafts for recovering unsaved work. No accounts, ads or analytics. Read first, edit when you need to Use the Markdown viewer to open documents from Android’s file picker or an “Open with” action. Each document opens in preview, so you can start reading without working through the source. - Read headings, lists, tables, checklists and strikethrough text. - View code blocks in a monospace font. - Choose light, dark or system theme and adjust the text size. - Find recent documents and recoverable drafts on the home screen. A Markdown editor for your own files Edit Markdown files where you opened them, with no need to move them into a new library. Use formatting shortcuts to spend less time entering syntax. - Insert Markdown syntax from the formatting toolbar. - Undo and redo changes during your editing session. - Use Find in document to locate a word in the editor. - Switch back to Markdown preview to read the result. Save to the original or make a copy Save updates the original file. Save as creates a copy in a location you choose. Before overwriting, the app checks whether the original has changed since you opened it. If it detects an external change, you can save a copy, reload the original or explicitly overwrite it. Draft recovery helps you return to unsaved work. A private draft is saved automatically on your device, separately from saving the original file. Restore it from the home screen. Recovery covers the last persisted draft; the final characters before an abrupt shutdown may be lost. If the file provider cannot finish saving, your draft is retained, while the original file may be incomplete. Try again or save a copy. Work offline, without an account Documents are processed on your device. Cloud providers in Android’s file picker may need an internet connection; the app does not include its own sync service. The interface is available in English and Italian. Follow your device language or choose a language in Settings. For README files, notes and documentation Use Markdown Reader MD to open MD files you already have, read technical documentation or revise a draft on your phone. It supports UTF-8 .md and .markdown files up to 5 MiB. Images appear as placeholders with alternative text. Change checklists in the editor; preview checkboxes are not interactive. PDF or HTML export, LaTeX formulas, Mermaid diagrams, split view and code syntax highlighting are not included. Open a Markdown document and start reading.
