A private rehearsal room that listens to how you speak, on the device, offline.
Nobody rehearses a talk out loud, because saying it to an empty room feels ridiculous and there is nobody
to tell you what it sounded like. Greenroom is the empty room, with an ear.
RECORD, AND GET TWO THINGS BACK
Rehearse into the phone and the app analyses the recording on the device. Then it says at most two things,
because a list of eleven corrections is a way of saying nothing. Each one names the moment and the clock
time so you can go and hear it, gives one instruction you could act on in the very next take, and ends
with something that is already working.
WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEASURES
Speaking rate, estimated from the syllable peaks in your loudness contour, including the stretches where
the pace runs away from you and for how long. Your pauses: where they are, how long each one lasted, and
how many were long enough for a room to notice. Loudness, and whether you fade towards the end. Pitch
movement in semitones, which is what people mean by monotone. And the shape of the whole take, so you can
see where the energy went.
FILLERS, HONESTLY
The app cannot hear the word "um", because that needs speech recognition, and speech recognition needs a
server. So you tap a button when you catch yourself during playback, and the coach works from your own
marks: how many a minute, and whether they cluster, which usually means a passage where the next sentence
was not decided yet.
FOUR ROOMS
A bare stage with one microphone standing in a cone of warm light, a friendly room that forgives a
stumble, the four o'clock bored room where attention has to be earned, and a sceptical room with its
arms folded. Every room is drawn in the app and reacts while you speak: the light on the empty stage
answers your voice, heads come up when your volume varies, phones come out when you flatten. It changes
the feedback texture, not the analysis afterwards.
A TELEPROMPTER THAT FOLLOWS YOU
Paste your script and it scrolls at a fixed speed, or follows your actual pace so it waits when you do.
Occasion notes for a talk, a toast, a defence and an interview answer, written as reminders rather than
rules. Warm-up prompts for a day when there is nothing to rehearse.
TAKE AGAINST TAKE
Put two takes of the same speech side by side, play one, and switch to the other without losing your
place. Then watch the signals move across a speech over days. That is the whole point: not a score, but
evidence you are getting better.
IT NEVER LEAVES THE PHONE
Greenroom does not request the internet permission. Your recordings, your scripts and your progress
cannot be uploaded, because Android will not let the app open a connection at all. No account, no cloud,
no analytics, no advertising ID. Delete a take, or everything, whenever you want.
Free and complete. There is no take limit and no signal held back for a paid tier.
