CarNVH is a professional diagnostic tool designed for vehicle vibration and noise analysis. It helps identify imbalances, faulty components, and structural resonances under real-world driving conditions—without the need for expensive measurement equipment.
NEW – Statistical analysis of recorded data visualizes dominant frequency orders and helps identify the source of vibrations.*
Using your smartphone’s built-in sensors and a connected OBD2 adapter (ELM327**), CarNVH transforms your device into a portable automotive spectrum analyzer for vibration and noise diagnostics. Ideal for car enthusiasts, mechanics, technicians, and automotive engineers.
🔬 Real-Time FFT Analysis & Signal Processing
- FFT spectrum analyzer for vibration and acoustic signals
- A wide range of graphs for real-time acoustic data processing, including envelope spectrum, knock detection, spectrogram/waterfall diagram, and many more
- Adjustable axes with additional features such as autoscaling, local maxima, and logarithmic display
🚗 Automotive Order Analysis
CarNVH uses:
- The smartphone microphone for noise analysis
- The built-in accelerometer for vibration analysis
- Vehicle speed from GPS for analyzing wheel-related vibrations
- Engine speed via OBD2 (ELM327 chip**) for analyzing powertrain vibrations
This makes it possible to correlate vibration frequencies with rotating or reciprocating components such as the engine’s piston assembly, valve train, gearbox, drivetrain, and wheels. It is also suitable for detecting repetitive sources of vibration or noise, such as fuel injectors or PWM-controlled valves, including the EVAP valve.
- The custom gear-ratio function allows manual ratio input, making it easier to identify vibration sources within the drivetrain
💾 Recording & Offline Analysis
- Record vibration and acoustic measurements in various formats (.txt, .csv, .tsv, .jsonl, and .wav)
- Reload and analyze recorded data offline using the main vibration and acoustic graphs
- Perform statistical analysis using histograms, spectrograms, order trends, and other tools for clear visualization of the results
All data is processed locally on the device.
CarNVH provides relative diagnostic insights and is intended as a practical analysis tool rather than a certified measuring instrument.
*The analysis is based on the recorded data. Because the results depend on the smartphone’s position and the nature of the fault, the source of the vibration cannot be identified with 100% certainty.
**Standard low-cost OBD2 adapters based on the ELM327 chip are supported. Third-party adapters that use proprietary communication protocols, such as TOPDON or OBDLink, are not supported.
