If you don't want ads, you can choose to subscribe to ad-free mode; ads generate some revenue for the developers.
Greedy and ad-infested. Used to be a nice, simple free app, but the developer has injected more and more ads and obstacles with every update. It now locks away your track recordings; exporting your data to an open format, for use in other apps, requires watching a 15 second unskippable ad for *each* of your track recordings. The backup format is encrypted, to ensure only the app, and not you, has access to your data. A lazy money-grab. Try the excellent open-source OsmAnd instead.

GPX, KML, and KMZ are open formats, allowing you to export data in these formats for easy sharing with other users. Data backup encryption is to protect your data from theft. Even the free app works quite well
This application provides excellent offline map functionality.
Not perfect and sometimes a bit non-intuitive, but definitely useful, especially for offline use. I use it quite often and still learning it.
Love this app. I do have a question for the developer. I used Green Tracks on a different device. Is there a way to merge backup files, to create one single backup? Thank you, for a great app.

There will be data conflicts, so this function cannot be provided, sorry.
Good without the need of data
I love this app! It is easy to use with both online and offline maps. I do trail running and hiking and by overlaying the tracks on the maps, it actually helps me many times. It also help me to plan and get the idea of the area I'll visit. I highly recommend this app! You can use all of the features for free, but I just purchased it as a support and as a thank.

A drop after an update usually means the update broke something.
