Live colour filters for colour blindness, plus tap to hear the colour name.
Color Blind Assist Camera is an everyday aid for people with colour vision deficiency. Point the camera at a scene and the live view is filtered so the colour pairs your eyes struggle with become easier to tell apart. Tap any point and the app tells you the closest basic colour name and its HEX code — out loud if you like. It is not a medical device: it does not test or diagnose anything, and it cannot replace an eye examination.
🎨 Correction filters
Choose your type — deuteranopia, protanopia (both red-green) or tritanopia (blue-yellow) — and the live preview is corrected with a daltonization filter built on published colour-vision models (Machado et al. 2009). A strength slider goes from off to full, so you can find the level that helps without making the picture look strange.
👁️ Simulation mode
Flip the switch and the same camera shows other people roughly how a scene may look to someone with your type of colour vision. Useful for explaining, for checking a chart or a map, or for designers testing their own work. It is an approximation, not a measurement.
🔎 Tap to read a colour
Tap the picture and the app reads the true colour under your finger, before any filter, and names the closest of 24 basic colours — red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple, brown and so on — together with the exact HEX value. The colour swatch on screen updates to the colour you tapped, and one more tap on the speaker reads the name aloud through the text-to-speech engine already on your phone.
📷 Save a filtered copy
Press the shutter to save a photo with the current filter applied at full resolution, or open a photo from your gallery through the system picker, read its colours and save a filtered copy. The original is never changed — every export is a new file in the Color Blind Assist album.
🔒 Private and offline
Camera frames and photos are processed on your phone and never leave it. There is no account, no server and no internet requirement. The only Android permission the app asks for is the camera. Read-aloud uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your device.
✨ Free, one optional upgrade
Everything above is free, supported by a small banner and an occasional full-screen ad. A one-time purchase removes ads forever; it is not a subscription.
A note on honesty: this app is not a medical device and does not test, diagnose or treat colour vision deficiency. You choose your own type; the app never guesses it. The filters are approximations from published models and may not match your individual vision, and the colour names are the nearest entry in a small table of basic colours. Please do not rely on the app for safety-critical colour decisions.
