Is their exchange rate fair? See what the spread costs you, even with no signal
very currency app tells you what 1,000 dollars is worth. None of them tell you that the window in front of you is paying 4.7% under the going rate — which on that 1,000 is 47 dollars you are handing over for nothing. Shortchange is the one that does. FAIR EXCHANGE? Type what you're exchanging and what they're offering — either the rate on their board or the total they'll hand you — and get, instantly: • what you'd receive at the reference rate • what you'd actually receive from them • the loss, stated in both currencies • a plain verdict: Fair, Acceptable, Pricey, or Bad deal No percentages to interpret. The number you lose, in the money in your pocket. CONVERT A plain, fast converter for the other 90% of the time. Pick a pair, type an amount. WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL This is the part other converters get wrong. A rate snapshot is built into the app, so it works the moment you install it — in an airport queue, on a border crossing, on a plane, on a foreign SIM you haven't activated yet. Refreshing is an improvement, never a requirement, and the screen always tells you how old the rates are so you can judge them yourself. 64 currencies. Every pair derived on your device. NO ACCOUNT, NO TRACKING, NO ADS There is nothing to sign up for. The app collects no data about you whatsoever — no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting. The only network request it ever makes is for the public exchange rate table, and it carries nothing about you. A NOTE ON THE RATES Reference rates come from exchangerate-api.com and update about once a day. They are indicative — the mid-market reference that banks and exchange houses price against. They are not a quote, and no exchange house is obliged to match them. That is precisely the point: the gap between the reference and their offer is the thing worth seeing.
